spark plug torque questions

sorry its me again.

i used a torque wrench on my 2 4 6 and 1 5 cylinder spark plugs.

but freakin i couldn't get the torque wrench into the middle rear plug so i kinda just winged it with my rachet. is that ok ? =[

thanks a lot,
d

oh btw the bosh plugs say 21 ft lbs and the haynes manual says like something a lot less. i went with the 21 ft lbs. is that too much ?

Best thing you can do is remove those plugs. Bosch & Toyotas DO NOT MIX. Seriously, you should only be using NGK plugs on Toyotas. Generally when tightening plugs, you can do it with a ratchet, once the plug meets the engine block, make a 2/3 turn. !ome reccomend applying anti-size on the plug.

13-15 ft lbs is enough.
Just use the plugs you got for alittle while till you get some NGK's. Then dump the Bosch.
For some reason they just don't last or perform for Toyotas.

yeah thats what i did too a year ago. my bosch plugs landed in garbage after a month as car was feeling real sluggish with them (were trying them with both bosch wires and then NGK wires, no change). with NGK plugs & wires it accelerates so much better

i don't know v6 torque specs for plugs, but for 4-banger 5s-fe it is 13ft-lbf.

I used Bosch plugs once also, and not for very long. Engine ran very poorly. Either Denso or NGK plugs work much better on Toyota engines. I use NGK, but there are a lot of people who feel Denso are superior. All I know is that Bosch plugs don't mix well with Toyota engines.

I also coat the plug threads with anti-seize, then use the 2/3rd turn after plug mates with head routine - no torque wrench.

The torque is likely fine. After doing five with a torque wrench, you had a pretty good feel for the correct torque.

Some engines require the plugs to be installed dry, others with a drop of motor oil. Few recommend anti-seize.

I personally have not noticed any difference in performance on my I4 with Bosch plugs. Bosch is basically what I went with every plug replacement until I heard people talking smack about it here.

However, with all of the what people here are saying about Bosch, I'd stay away from them.

If money is an issue, don't just throw them away. Use them and decide for yourself if they're crappy. Then in a year get NGK.
