Quick 1MZ water filler question

Does the water filler water level stay at the top on your 1MZs when cold? The 1MZ is a little odd in that the water filler is part of the water bypass system, so I'm thinking it doesn't stay full. Either that or the long distance the cooling system has to draw water from the reservoir is affecting it (in my MR2). If I top it off, the reservoir goes above the "FULL" line when at operating temperature.

I'm not having any overheating issues, and the system stays pressurized. I'm just wondering as I don't have another 1MZ car to use as a reference.

Okay. My EGR cooler has some coolant crust around it, even with a new gasket put on during my rebuild. It's gonna be a bitch to get to since I have to remove my passenger side axle. I'm gonna use RTV to mate the surfaces better. I have a feeling part of the mating surface had a gouge I didn't see. It'll be copper RTV due to the closeness to the exhaust system and the heat exchange between the exhaust gas and coolant.

My MLS head gaskets have been flawless, but go figure a little thing like an EGR cooler gasket (which is only a single metal layer) gives me a leak. It's a VERY small leak.

It was the drain bolt on the EGR cooler that was leaking a couple of drops. As I said, very small leak, and it never introduced air into the system.

So, I tightened that MFer down and it stopped leaking. I used a torque wrench to tighten it during my rebuild, and it seems to have loosened as it heat cycled. Next time I'll use a little RTV on the threads to prevent something like this.

Water level stays full now. I also rerouted my overfill hose so that it stays level, which should allow the system to draw more coolant from the overflow container. The damn container is on the other side of the engine compartment in the MR2.
