my transmission fluid

So i just replaced one of my coolant hoses today in order to fix a leak iv been having and so i decided to check the transmission fluid while i was out there. my fluid is a very dark brown, it doesn't really smell burnt to me. Is it ok to go ahead and flush or will it do more harm than good? also i have been noticing lately that my car seems sluggish it shifts fine, but just seems really slow, could this also be part of the problem?

Year of vehicle? Mileage? Has transmission previously been serviced?

Its a 1993 Camry LE with 220,000 miles on it but the engine and transmission have only around 180,000 miles. It hasn't been serviced since the engine and tranny was swapped out about 4 years ago. I was thinking of not doing a flush but a fluid change like in the diy section.

Thats probably the safest....but try to change out all the fluid. Its a good sign that the fluid didn't smell burned!

I think all these Toy trannys turn the fluid brown after some miles....mine was that way too. Mine probably had 40-60K on the fluid....

I've never seen any of my american cars do that! ...Except when their trannys start to go bad & slip,.. then it will darken up the fluid, but it will smell burned too!....

So I think that the "brown" yucky fluid look must have something to do with the type of clutch material Toyota uses & dosen't mean a whole lot!!!!
