Okay, so you all know how when you have your lights on.. only the one box illuminates? What would happen if I wired in parallel the rear hazard/turn signals? The only problem I see in doing this is that the turn signals will blink from fully on, to half on, and back and forth, instead of on and off completely. Any other potential problems you see occurring? Or what about the scenario where I'm braking and also have the turn signals going, what would happen (I'm assuming nothing), which would make the mod useless. I basically want the turn signals to be utilized at the same time the regular tail lights are utilized.
hmmmmm interesting idea.... i smell a 2nd bulb being modded into this to make it work. then cross wire it alternativly to turn on and off with blinkers. (half asleep thought so prob doesnt make sence)
When I get the chance I'm going to look at what options I have. After sleeping on it, I'm thinking I can maybe add some LED's that have their heads sticking out a bit, glued onto the lens near the far ends of the taillights. I'll have to look closely at how the taillights are made before proceeding though.
I'm thinking of doing a design with LEDs but I can't figure out how good it will look. Don't have the time until next week to open up the taillights and have a look. I do have Red LEDs lying around so I might as well make good use of them. I'm liking the idea using the LEDs for turn signals, and then both the original stop and turn signal bulbs for just stop light.
I'm hoping some experts on relays can help with this situation. I don't think modding extra bulbs into the taillights will work without extensive "surgery" of the taillights, which I'd rather not do. Right now, I'm planning to just wire the bulbs parallel to each other, so whenever brake lights are on, both lights will turn on. For turn signals, same.. both bulbs will blink. The only problem is when I'm hitting the brakes and have turn signals on. I understand it won't burn out the bulb just because both wires are giving 12v, but I'm afraid that when hitting the brakes, there won't be turn signals anymore. I'm trying to think of a way a relay can help to fix this problem. Maybe somehow when the turn signals get power, the brake lights lose power, but I just can't seem to figure it out. I'll get to the bottom of this eventually!
Do it up! should be too hard to find locations to mount.. In my clear/red tails i took out the reflectors (bending and pulling to get out of bulb hole) and mounted walen police strobes in there along with the turn sigs. 1in hole. no probs what so ever =] have them mounted there and in my low beam area of my headlights. kinda wish i did highbeams tho. lol
it runs 3 wires yes but to one main tail lights bulb. the side marker bulbs are on their own harness i do believe unless they are spliced further back in the wire, and the turn signals are on their own harness. the tail lights(main bulbs) are dual filaments. but one wire is ground one wire is for parking lights and one wire is for brake lights. You could just find a way to splice into the parking lights for a few leds and then splice into the brake light wire for the rest... or run another dual filament bulb in there some how. as for bulb size i use to know the size but i forgot because i wanted to run the same bulbs and custom harnesses awhile back for my turn signals up front.
Edit! idea! run dual filament bulbs in place of the turn signals. run the parking light wire to the turn signal wires and run the other wire to the brake light wire.... hmmmm im workin on an idea but im about to head to work so let me think about this one. lol
You would have to buy the bulbs and harness for that bulb though which can be found on ebay for cheap. like i said the bulb size is on the tip of my tongue but i cant think of it atm
what does dual filament mean? if i use the electronic tail light converter i won't need dual filament i don't think.. guess this mod is a go but just gotta figure out exactly how it works. buying the tail light converter and hopefully doing the mod next week.
Well think about other cars. My dad's old ford E350 van would share turn/brake bulbs. Turn signals still light up when braking. I'm sure you've seen other cars do that.
So it IS possible.
That towing idea is a good one too. I wonder if you could make that little box yourself, if all it does is splice the red wire into the green and yellow....
I think there's more to that box than meets the eye.. if it was as simple as splicing, no one would have to buy the box (I've been trying to figure out what's in the box also but can't find much info on it) We've established that its definitely possible so it's only a matter of time before I get it done.. which will be next week.
dual filaments mean it has 2 wires that light up instead of one... hard to explain. inside the bulb u have the 2 rods and a wire that goes across. dual filament means it has 2 little wires instead of one. hints being able to stay dim then get brighter... if that makes sense. ohhh i see there is a 3rd spark of interest instead of this just being a public pm between me and iova =p
If I'm getting this correctly, the brake light bulb is dual filament, meaning there are two wires coming out of the same bulb, one for parking light and one for brake light? If so, I'll definitely have to mod a dual filament bulb into the turn signal for this to work.
I thought that the brake lights had one wire coming out of them, and would get for example, 6v for parking light, and then the full 12v for brake but I guess I was mistaken.
Do you know how different the 1156 and 1157 bulbs are?
