Thanks! When I got it, it looked like it hadn't been washed in about 6 years. It had one of those awful vinyl bras on the hood that spent years capturing dirt, rocks dust, and bugs and making sure they scratched and chipped the paint. I spent the better half of a Sunday doing a 10 step paint restoration project.
Basically I did a simple wash with some P&S F21 car shampoo.
Pressure cleaned the engine bay (cover the distributor with a plastic bag)
Gunk engine degreaser 2x
Then I washed the car again with the same F21 soap, only this time I did it by hand using what can be described as a Brilo pad but for cars. It's very gentle (I don't even know what brand it was) and it was awesome to get off a lot of the grime, ready for the clay bar.
Meguiars Clay Bar. I used dawn+water to get the deeper grime off.
After that was done, I used the "smart clean" system also by P&S
I used a medium cut compound with a med cut pad on a buffer to get the oxidation off.
Then I used a speed polish with a polish pad to get it to a lustre
Then I used Meguiars polish
Then a Mequiars Carnuba.
The paint feels glass smooth. There is one spot on the trunk that needs to be hit again, apparently it had a bit more oxidation than I thought.
