Stupid Freaking Dumb Mistakes

So I made a absolutely ridiculous and completely avoidable mistake that was a combination of being tired, having played some ultimate frisbee = shaky hands, and using a freaking power tool when I should have been using a regular old screw driver.

My pilot holes weren't quite deep enough, so while putting the screw in with the drill it hit end, I slipped and damaged the bottom part of the cone , proceeded to jump around and swear for 3 minutes, and then hate myself!

I busted out some silicone and made a light patch, front and back. It didn't go into the surround much so hopefully my fix will work.

And if not... I'll use my remaining speaker to create a center channel and I'll just have to buy some component speakers!

ANYWAY does anybody have any screw-ups, mistakes, $$$ losing moments that they want to share? If there not to painful.

Drew~

FWIW: I'd use a small dab of superglue for that repair. No you don't want it on the flexible part, but the slight change in mass of the added silicone might actually make it rip more as it slows down the cones response rate. << Prolly not a problem if its just a thin film. IDK?

As to the meat of the thread:

Any clue what happens moments later?

Luckily I'm not the kind to drop the hood from full lift and when it didn't shut, I pushed on it twice thinking "that was ODD!" - sigh -
Much to my suprize when I saw what I'd done, AMAZINGLY it didn't scratch or even bend them!

I installed the thermostat backward....
In the past, I destroyed perfectly fine EGR valve by checking if it holds pressure. I used a bike pump and pumped to much so it just exploded.....

....

I'll play....

Like I just posted elsewhere....I blew a perfectly good alternator while changing my timing belt...

By NOT reading my cars handbook & seeing that I really COULD disconnect my battery without locking up my stereo!!!! 1 minute reading = $130 saved....

That was a (semi) wasted $130...... at least my daughter's car has a brand new alternator now....
