3rd Generation Anybody Replace Wiper Arms Yet?

So my windshield wiper arms look like they are Chrome Plated because all of the paint has worn off as they are 17 years old on my 1993 LE. I ordered new ones off E-Bay. Looking at them today it looks like they are held on by one lock bolt towards the bottom. Are they simply plug & play after taking off the lock bolt?.....

The black paint on the wiper arm does fade off, if the car spent a lot of time under the sun, but unless the spring inside the wiper arm has gone bad (lost tension or broke), wiper arms are usually good for the life of the vehicle.

I have repainted many wiper arms of many cars with semi-flat black paint (Krylon). You simply remove the arm, the wiper blade, perform a good cleaning (prep) and apply 2-3 coats of paint.

Yes, the arm is only held by that one nut at the pivot point.

Before you remove the wiper arm, mark where the wiper blade is parked on the windshield so that you can put it back in the same position.

Yeah our wiper arms are simply "plug and play" as you put it.. I also recommend just painting them yourselves instead of getting new ones.. unless they're the same exact ones, they might be a bit longer/shorter depending on where you get them.

They stated they fit the 1993 Camry left & right sides so I guess they are the exact size.....I'll find out when they arrive this week....

When the ones on my 94 Camry started to fade I had them powered coated. It's been about 8 years and they still look good. Powder coating is a bit more durable than paint.

Wiper arm spring?

Has anyone successfully replaced the spring in a Camry (96 wagon) wiper arm? My rear passenger side wiper spring needs to be replaced because the wiper doesn't lay flat against the window. Actually, I was cleaning the window and pulled the wiper away from the window - and something popped. I removed the wiper arm, and found that the spring was no longer actuating.

I have the spring mechanism apart, but can't pull it tight enough to reconnect it. Any suggestions? - just get a new wiper arm? ($50+!! at dealer).

thanks!

I would try a salvage yard for that part. If you have a pick-n-pull in your area I can't see it being more than a few dollars.
