what kind of engine?

i have a 1997 toyota camry le 4 cyl....i was told that the engine came with two different casting nmbers, one which was a 3 sfe or somthn like that and a 5sfe. Was wondering how i could tell the difference or if someone could tell me where the casting number is found on the block, any help would be appreciated!

All 4cyl Camrys came with the 5sfe.....Only the Celicas. and MR2s came with the 3sfe or the 3sgte which is the turbo engine.

You should be more specific, all 4 banger Camrys from 92-01 came with the 5S-FE. Prior to 92 was the 3S-FE and after 01 is some other thing that I don't know the name of.

I think it's the 2AZ-FE in 02-09 Camry's.

It's a big white sticker on the underside of the hood. I believe it's the top right, if you're standing at the front of the car.

It might be covered in dirt though.

oh ok sorry thought you meant me

sorry for all the silly questions about the badge, im at work and my girlfriend is at home and im hopen that she can find it for me so i can just go straight to the machine shop to get the gaskets instead of going to the opposite side of town to check it for myself..
