oil warning light, loud chattering on idle.

Hi Guys,

I got a Camry XV10 with 270,000 km's. Its an I4 (5S-FE) 2.2Ltr Manual and driving down the freeway at around 110km/h and the oil warning light starts flickering on and off. When i got to a place where i could pull over.. at idle there is a very very loud clatter, but when you lift the rpms up a bit.. it goes away.

There are a few metal shavings where the crank spins.

Would this indicate that the engine has had its time? or is this salvageable?

Havent had time to pull the oil out, nor the oil filter.

Sounds like you've been running it low on oil.

Try an oil change and see what happens.

*Changed the oil and oil filter approx 500km's before hand (probably less than a week).

*Checked the oil level and its still Full. looked underneath near the oil pan, no evidence of oil loss of some sort.

*Changed oil at intervals of 5,000km's.
