4th Generation CEL - P0770 - Shift Solenoid E Error.

Hi guys,

I searched the forum and saw that quite a few people have run into this diagnostic code, but I would like to get advice. My car seems to be driving fine, but the CEL light came on the other day. It shifts fine in all gears, the only thing quirky was that my gas mileage on my last fill was about 20 miles below what it usually is. This by itself isn't too weird.

Anyhow, I disconnected the battery and the CEL is now off. I drove about 40 miles and it didn't come back on. I read that sometimes a solenoid can get stuck briefly and trigger this event.

If the light doesn't come back on, is it safe to carry on about my business or should I still get it serviced? Will my transmission ASPLODE if I keep driving the car?

This is on a 2000 Camry, automatic, 2.2 liter, 120,000 miles.

Thanks guys.

No lite no problem basically. Dont fix it if it aint broke.

If you havent changed the transmission fluid in a while, a drain and refill wouldn't hurt.
