Exclamation Breaking Stuff, Pulled from DIY thread

All,
A question was raised in another thread about Torque Wrench Calibration. Just an FYI, there are services out there to have your tools calibrated at.

Some of you will notice the sticky on my torque wrench; it's the calibration tag! I send it in every couple of years for calibration at Snap-on, its inexpensive as long as nothing is broke or requires replacement.

On another note; Tools have specific purposes.
  • Breaker bars are long and strong and meant for breaking stuff!
  • Torque Wrenches are prescision measurment tools meant to secure fasteners at a specified torque.
These tools should not be interchanged! If you use your Torque wrench as a breaker bar and your head gasket job fails you, you might want to give this some thought before your next repair.

Thanks a ton for the info! I own HF torque wrenches and would like to perform annual calibration for them. I am a weekend user and religiously use TW on my lug nuts.
I dont do lot of engine work but would even a cheap calibrated TW from HF would do a good job on a head gasket job?? I dunno...
