Need help-information?

Hi,

I have a 1998 Toyota Camry CE Manual transm. 2.2L (4 Cyl) which I keep in very good condition, and as I am planning to never sell it out, I saw on Craigslist (South Florida) a 1998 Toyota Camry LE Automatic transmission selling for over $1000, but I am thinking to ask $1000 (not a penny over) and take it home as for spare parts, for my Camry; however even though the engine is 2.2L as mine, I was not 100% sure if it will be the same engine and everything as mine with the exception of the transmission.

Anybody could tell me if it is the same on everything, as I am planning to take the engine and send it to be rebuilt and keep it for the day mine says:”enough is enough"? Also I can use all the rest as spare parts, as said.

Thanks in advance.

Yes, the engine is exactly the same. The emissions systems may be different. I'd be sure that the automatic is the same spec as your car (cali or federal). That's as simple as providing the VIN to the dealership or looking for a sticker under the hood.

The interiors between the CE and LE are different, and the audio systems can be different. Browse through the 1998 dealer brochure at toyotareference.com if you want to know EVERY tiny thing that's different.

Also... in the future, a thread title with "need help information?" isn't exactly the best title. You're creating a new thread, so obviously you have a question. Why not title it with something like "1998 2.2L: CE vs. LE Parts"?

Thank you.

I will check on the webpage you provided.

It seems a private seller. About the transmission, anyway mine is manual, which is what I would like to buy as a car, but I can't find one 1998 Toyota Camry CE at that price, so I could sacrifice that, but having all the other spare parts.

I'll take in account your advice for the new thread, just tried first googeling the answer and did not find it, so I came to this Forum.

Thanks again.

Is the engine bad? If so, I'd think even $1000 is a bit much, but that's based on what I've seen in my area.

In addition to the differences between CE vs LE, there are also subtle differences between being produced in Japan (JPP, 1st character of VIN is J) or the US (NAP, 1st character not J, usually 4), but it wouldn't likely apply to most of the higher cost parts of the car.

Rattlin_Steele,

I finally decided not to buy it, and as I am just doing it for spare parts (thinking about saving on the long run), you are right $1000 is kind of expensive as I am not in any hurry; so I will wait the time and moment when I can find the exactly the same car I have.
In a yr prices should go even down for an old and basic car.

Thanks for your reply.
