Grrr...Darn Battery Cables...Grrr...

That blasted Neg cable is driving me NUTS! I got my new cable ends from Toyota today, but for the life of me, I can't get the big nut off the top of the cable...I've sprayed it with PB all week, tried a nut splitter, but can't get it at the right angle. It just won't budge. Stubborn SOB. All I have been able to do is to bend the hell out of the flat steel cable end, and if I break that, I'm screwed. The new ends seem to be made from aluminum. I peeled back the plastic from under the old end, and the whole thing is loaded with 13 years of corrosion and battery acid. IDK, I guess the only thing left to do is saw off the stud the nut sits on...any ideas? I'm out of them right now. I do not want to cut the cable and put a universal end on.

Put about a quarter cup of baking soda in about a cup of water. Use it to scrub the terminals using an old toothbrush or something like that. It'll foam and fizz up quite a bit, so wear some goggles to protect your eyes. And wear some rubber gloves, too. The baking soda neutralizes and breaks away the corrosion quite well. When you're done, hose it down liberally with a garden hose. You want to wash away all the nasty stuff being cleaned off as it's quite corrosive. Needless to say, do this all outside. Not in your garage, because it'll make a heck of a mess.
