my car just started overheating, when i add fluid and start the car when it gets warm it starts spitting water out of the resivor? i get under thecat and i dont see any leack or nothing ..i thinking its the thermostat
what eles should i check for?
and what does it mean when water spitts out scavanger system?
I think your initial thermostat guess is right. Sounds like it may not be opening. Has the water pump ever been changed on the car? What's the condition of the radiator?

Water spitting out the reservoir? You most likely have a blown head gasket. Sorry to be the bearer of bad news. Overheating will destroy head gaskets and warp your heads. You can try a fix with a product called K-Seal sold at NAPA for $15. To get an idea on what's involved to fix it, you can checkout this website I wrote replacing one on a Honda Accord:
Do not scare the OP without good reasons. I just recently had the similar issue and the problem was in two things - radiator cap and thermostat (I installed it backward ; the same effect as it doesn't open). So, check these two things first.

Simple things first. Inspect and or repalce the radiator cap. It could be that simple!
Next time you park it, park it somewhere where the passanger side of the car is higher than the drivers side. When it cool, take up to an hour and just keep topping off the fluid level at the radiator cap. Start it long enough to move some air about (20 seconds). Turn it off. Keep topping it off. Install new cap and tell us what happens.
Hint; any defects, tears, cracks, chunks, or debris in the caps two rubber seals can make it puke into the tank.
Oh - to answer the "why"
Your car has a 16lb cap. When water heats it expands, if the expansion exceeds the pressure rating of the cap, it allow the water to vent to the tank so it the system does not damage things like hoses and radiators. But a bad cap can let everything out at 1lb making it LOOK like your car is over heating when all it really is is a bad cap! The cap also allows water back in to the system when the water cools. Again, a bad cap can cripple both of these important functions!

Does the heat work? If you get no heat, the water pump isn't moving water.
If the heat does work, I'd blame the thermostat first.
When the car's hot, is the upper radiator hose hot too, or does it stay cool? If it's overheating you should have a hard time holding on to it for more than a few seconds. If the thermostat never opened, it'll be cool enough to hold.
If the hose is hot, shut it down and grab the lower hose. If it's hot too, you don't have enough air moving across the radiator. If it's cool, you have a clogged radiator.
I think your initial thermostat guess is right. Sounds like it may not be opening. Has the water pump ever been changed on the car? What's the condition of the radiator?
the cap is brand new and the radiator is brand new and has no leaks...also when i touch the upper hose it gets hot.
when i first start the car up i let the car warm up,then i drive the car for 10 min. then out of no were the water guage jumps all the way up to the top and i pull over and pop the hood and then water is just shooting out of the resivor...
i think it is the thermostat, its never been changed since i got the car..has 150k miles
[QUOTE=oldfirebird;3275970]What about the heat? If you turn the heat on high, does it blow hot air?
When the temp gauge is above half, does the radiator fan turn on?
ok, i changed the cap. now water dont spit out no more. but when i turn the heater on, i get no heat, and the cars temp is in the middle, the car is fully warmed up at this point.. and somtimes the temp moves up a little then fall back down to the middle..
im thinking its the thermostat going badwhat do u guys think ?
So, if heater doesn't blow hot air even when engine is hot this may mean two things: water pump is bad, or there is air trapped in the system. You need to bleed the cooling system by running engine with opened radiator cap until all bubbles disappear. Put the heat on MAX, open radiator cap (when engine is still COLD!) and start the engine. Coolant will start to overflow slowly - this is ok. You may get a superfunnel like the one below to prevent spills: http://www.summitracing.com/parts/LIL-24610/?rtype=10

Camry 3.0V6, 1MZ-FE overheating with bubbling in reservoir
1999 Toyota Camry 3.0V6, 1MZ-FE, 175k km.
Did read thru this thread - a bit different scenario, there is no coolant leaking or spilling out from reservoir.
Because of recent hot weather (Australia, summer now), 43C today. Temperature will go over 3/4 of temperature gauge approaching red line. Usually is slightly below 1/2 on gauge when it is normal. This happened when drive and stop on 60Km/h roads with multiple traffic lights, with A/C on. The temperature will drop when A/C is off. It is fine when on highway even with A/C on.
Found boiling + bubbling in the reservoir (level is 20mm above the FULL line) when parked + idled by roadside. When A/C is turning, temperature was creeping up.
Cap? hose (no leak nor crack per Toyota service)? radiator clogging? water pump? big air pocket (the red coolant was not flowing into the engine as seen thru the translucent coolant hose when bubbling)? air pressure in the radiator too high to take in coolant? cap?
Recently did a service and check, no leak on anything. Toyota service...since only they have empty slot to fill in before the holiday season.
