93 v6 xle intake ?

i have a 1993 Camry V6 XLE and was looking at the intake tubing when i was cleaning the throtlle body... and found the piece that connects to the air box with the filter, what is the purpose of and how does the little throtlle body butterfly thing right there work?

i am not talking about a throtlle body butterfly....i am talking about the thing attatched to the air box appearntly its an afm? so im guessing its just a mass air flow sensor???? but what does it need the butterfly part for?

Pretty retarded technology... but it does the job. Press on the throttle, vacuum rises, airflow lifts up that lil door. The more the door is open the more the ecu gives gas.
