Gen3 TRD Short Shifter install (and NEW fix for a solid feel)...

Installing the gen4 shifter assembly and gen4 TRD short shifter was a breeze!
I started at about 1am Friday night and finished by 3 but I had a few beers, installed a new set of headlights and a set of brass shifter cable bushings from Speed-Source too.
The hardest part was shaving down the spots where the shifter cables come thru the assembly so the gen3 clips fit back.

At first I was a bit under whelmed with the shifter... knob hight was the a tad lower and the throw seemed a little shorter but the whole thing was a bit spoungy even with the brass shifter cable bushings and there was a ton of clearence under the shifter.
So, I ended up removing the soft rubber assembly bushings and metal sleeves that go between the floor and the shifter assembly and just cranking the bolts down nice and tight with the addition of some lock washers above the assembly. Now its got about 1-2mm of floor clearence at the bottom of the stick, the knob hight is considerably lower and the throws are rock solid!

next comes the clutch and flywheel

I actually got my shifter and trd knob for $80usd off camryman.org and I got the assembly for free from a friend who's a wholesale dealer. ...he owed mw a favor.
From TRD you're looking at $150usd or so for the shifter and knob and about $215usd for the assembly from a dealer but I may be able to get a few more assemblies for considerably less.

The install is very easy and modifacation is straight forward and simple with a dremel tool. Once I pulled out my metal gen3 assembly and sat it next to the plastic gen4 assembly it was obvious what had to be removed.
The hardest part was where the cables come thru the assembly. There is a fitting that sits against the front of the assembly and a clip that goes to the rear of the front assembly wall. The wall is a bit too thick. I used the face of a high speed cutoff wheel that just happened to be the right diameter to shave it down.

I recomend getting the brass Speed-Source shifter cable bushings. They're only $26usd shipped and they make a world of difference over the shitty oem rubber ones.
