Turbo pre-build stuff - No noobness please!

K guys, need input/thoughts, debating on picking up one of these (or something similar, if these get sold before my next paycheck) for parts on my turbo build

http://montreal.kijiji.ca/c-cars-veh...AdIdZ221649741

http://montreal.kijiji.ca/c-cars-veh...AdIdZ222144470

Both are turbo motors, the WRX has rod knock if I understood the quebecoise properly. Volvo has less boost in all likelyhood (I mean, it's a wagon), but the motor's closer in size to my 3L. And before anyone says it, I am NOT planning on a High-pressure build with a used turbo, for obvious reasons, but want something capable of around 4 psi (it's more important for me to get the plumbing put in, so I can upgrade to proper parts more easily in the future). This is supposed to be a budget build as well, hopefully below $1k, with some luck will be installing parts in october!

Thoughts?

*EDIT*
I'm not doing a motor swap, rather, I plan on taking the turbo equipment from the motor, and selling the remaining stuff on craigslist.

(subliminal message - LYNCH, BUY IT!!!)

Since i've been researching all day in prep for you're subliminal message, shouldn't we be looking into restoring the engine first? Upgrading the flywheel and clutch? Never the less... subscribed.

flywheel and clutch, I'm picking up in sept (hopefully)
same goes for the rad, getting a fresh one. Motor was recently seafoamed.

and I'm hoping to at least buy the (some) turbo stuff this fall so I have something to do during winter/march breaks... If it's not too cold in the garage.

Copper HG will be coming too hopefully, if Gabe is still doing em (knock on wood). Of course, I am assuming that I will keep getting good hours until school starts, hence the october-ish deadline, but there is the possibility of a pushback. This is my next "serious" mod though

this is more of a "what do you think of this idea" (idea being to buy a turbo motor and go cannibal) thread though, I'll have an actual build thread when I gather the parts together.

BTW, those ads actually best illustrate my problem - go similar-size motor (which is basically a few volvos and audi motors), or find some scoobie/eclipse and run up the boost a bit?

Well, according to Cody the best turbo for these engines is a T3/T04e hybrid in 57 trim with a .84 A/R. This is what he wanted to put in: http://www.atpturbo.com/mm5/merchant...egory_Code=TBN

Obviously $685 USD is pricey, but get as close to the specs of that Turbo as you can. I pulled all this info from Cody's build thread and searching around today. (I'm gonna start a pre-boost tune up thread here in a sec. I'll add a link.)

Yeah, it's just a wee bit pricey... And since I'm a college student, I figured this is the best alternative (unfortunately, the manufacturers don't post their OEM turbo specs, so I'm trying the "similar displacement" approach

Spitfire, swap to lynch's thread - He'll deffs be more "professional" than me when it comes to this (plus I trust his research more then mine )

Leave my excel spreadsheets alone! also... link to my build up: http://www.toyotanation.com/forum/sh....php?p=3283083

IDK if a similar displacement approach is the best idea. Have you looked into running a used CT26 for low boost? I think that's another good option.
