What A/C compressor has given you the least issues?

Here we go AGAIN! Another A/C issue ironically in 100+ degree heat. So, I was able to get my compressor replaced...but it was with a fourseasons (new) compressor with clutch. Changed drier as well and loaded with 134. Shop put it in.

Well, now...the damn thing isn't getting cold enough. Even on the highest setting, its subpar and feels like its blowing maybe 65-70 degrees. And when the car is stopped, its even warmer. It sucks!

The place who installed it said it was fine, and they worked it again today... but another place said the compressor was 'no good and re-built'. I know for a fact, that the A/C can get colder so Im pointing to the compressor too. Sounds like I was sold a lemon (compressor).

Any suggestions on a better one? All the autoparts stores have the best items for special order and never in stock, which is so annoying!

My opinion, for what it is worth, is for you to get a factory OEM A/C compressor from a salvage yard.

Reason: I've seen very few problems with Toyota factory A/C compressors, as long as the A/C system was properly maintained. They very rarely fail. I think your chances of getting a good compressor from a salvage yard are pretty high. And they won't be nearly as expensive as buying one from a parts place.

Hmmm, I bought a salvage compressor before and the pulley broke causing me to break down. Not a big fan of stuff from the salvage unless it requires no mechanical or electrical parts. Interior/body stuff and tailights from there are fine.

But, its not a bad idea...But I just see so many 96 Camry's with the windows down make me feel as if the a/c system is no good.

I did some research, I think I need to take it somewhere better. This place just unscrewed the compressor and let the gas off into the ozone. They didnt vacuum or replace expansion valve (that came with the damn kit). So Im thinking compressor is fine...but the air has moisture or air, or the valve is clogged since the last compressor froze up.

I was just concerned about my 4-seizends...compressor

Yes...compressor #4. Original (which I think was stolen, not broken!), then the junk yard one, then the rebuilt one that lasted about 25,000 miles (not bad) and now this one...which I believe is fine actually.

I'm taking it somewhere else that has proper A/C equipment. I'm sick of these shade tree shops that act like they know what they're doing. Hell, if I have to start going to chain and franchise stores, then so be it
