Transmission Replacement 1993 Camry SE V6

I need to replace a bad auto tranny in a 1993. Going to swap for a used 100K mile 6 month warranty tranny.

Rebuilt is too much money for this car. What parts need to be replaced as new and how hard of a job will it be.

I have the tools & hoist, but need easy tips please. How long can I expect for this project, I have basic skills and have pulled an engine or two, never in a Toyota however.

Thanks in advance for any help.

It shouldn't take you more than a day unless you run into major problems.

I recommend changing the rear main seal and any bearings down there. Also, the axle seals should be changed as well (unless they put new ones in the used trans)

Really it's a simple swap. Just remove everything attached/in the way, remove the axles and then take it out!

You're gonna have to drop the subframe...I don't think it'll fit out the top unless you remove the engine too.

Wow, that a fast response. Thanks! If it is easier, I can lift the whole engine & tranny out and put back in. What do you think?

I don't mean easier as in it will take less time. I mean if you can take the whole thing out easily, do it because then you can take the tranny off in your garage or wherever and have tons of space to work.

I've never taken the tranny out without removing the engine, I usually just scoot it over to the side to do the clutch.

I honestly think nex ttime I do the clutch, I'll remove the engine and tranny together just to give me extra room.

Ok, I am ordering tranny and will do the install in a few weeks. Pulling engine and all out. Thanks for your input. One last ting, should the torque converter be changed, if so, new or rebuilt?

I have no idea, I don't really do automatics. I personally would change it just for peace of mind, and the only way to get to it is pulling the trans off. And trust me, getting your tranny back together and in the car just to pull it back out the same day SUCKS. I've pulled my tranny 3 times this week now for clutch problems. Today will be going back on for the last time!
