youll want to look at some speakers that match the wattage of the power output of you hed unit. When i did the speakers in my gen three i used sony in front and back, no amp. Just get a brand you know. Insofar as installation, the trickiest part with the front ones is not breaking the clips holdingthe interior in and removing the shroud behind the door lever. Not that hard and putting in the front speakers givs a lot of extra clarity. Just buy a wellknown brand amd do it yourself, its easy.

IMHO anything you get that isn't paper-coned and is aftermarket will sound better than the stock speakers. Make sure they can handle the higher wattage your head unit has.. and please don't get cheap speakers from China.. in a sense you do get what you pay for

Yup! They're grrreeaatttt! I have a personal preference for Infinity speakers, but if you are not planning on getting an amplifier, I would stick with something that matches the wattage output of your headunit. Also, look at the RMS watt value, and not peak value. The peak value is only held for a couple of seconds and then the speaker blows, the RMS (root mean square) value is the one that is useful to you

I have a 1995 Camry LE and just bought a Sony system to upgrade to CD/MP3/ Ipod. It came with 6.5" speakers which I think I have to replace since there is no sound from front left. Can I just pull the grill off to replace or do I have to take the door apart. I don't want to break anything so I'm looking for any help you can offer. Pictures would be nice.

Thanks,

Better for you to just remove the entire door panel. The grill is pretty much secure in the door panel and will be hard to remove.

The speaker grill is not designed to come off, you need to remove the door panel. Are you sure the speaker itself is bad? Check to see if you have an amplifier under the passenger seat, mine failed, but before it totally fried itself the left front speaker stopped working. Maybe just a coincidence that your left front speaker doesn't work.

edit - this guide will help you remove the door panel.

Thanks both to Iovaykind and 71corolla for your responses. I found a DIY for replacing the door latches and I saw a picture of the inside grill and it's screwed on from behind so I'll need to remove the door panel as you suggest and now I know how. No amp, just basic cassette unit. I'll replace the radio first and see.

Thanks again.

Dump that crusty old cassette player and do what I did. Sound is 10 times better, even paper coned speakers can sound pretty good.
