Transmission Help!

My 92 Camry has been having some transmission problems and is needing a replacement transmission. I found an automatic transmission from a 92 Celica GT. Would this transmission fit straight across? Im pretty sure that 92 Celica transmissions are a140e with 1 speed sensor like the the Camry one. Can anybody verify this swap?

well my transmission is getting old and it doesnt shift at the same point when running the throttle at the same position. which is a sign of a transmission starting to go.

also recently i had a problem for a few days that someone else had a thread about. a problem with my transmission hunting and never quite finding the gear when it shifts to second.

Bubbles????

Hmm. . . . More important towards diagnosis is smell and color. If it smells burned the clutches have/are slipping and its time is counting down. EDIT: bad torque converters can burn fluid too. Thus bright red fluid can smell burned because the converter super-heated it.

gear hunting could be more from a poor running engine. If the engine cannot maintain the load for the conditions (throttle mainly) it'll drop a gear. Think vacuum leaks, plugged fuel injectors, over heating, detonation, changes in ignition advance, cheap gas. . . .

Old school stuff had mechanical governors driven by the final drive that fed pressure back to the transmissions valve body. Coupled with throttle position, sometimes vacuum, and speed the trans picked a gear. Now the ECM does this through sensor input of some of those same parameters. So you could be looking as sensor issues creating this "gear hunting issue".

Engine only has 40,000 miles and runs great. My neighbor helped me check the problem and he is fairly sure the transmission is just slowly dying. He used to be a transmission specialist.

So has anybody heard of using the celica transmission in a camry?

Hey,before you swap it out ,do this:according to the Marvel Mystery Oil website, you can use mmo in an auto trans. They say it dissolves gums and varnishes, etc. Why not try it on the original trans,so that people here and other sites i let know about this can see the results?http://www.marvelmysteryoil.com/inde...s/viewforum/2/

does anybody know if the 3sfe transmission side cover fit or match up to the 5sfe cover? so i can use the bottom mount instead of welding or drilling top mount like mr2 and celica?
