Getting rid of AC compressor - 95 1mz-fe

Has anyone here permanently removed an AC compressor from their 1mz-fe?

I have a 95 1mz-fe, the AC has never worked, all of the refrigerant had leaked out at some point.
I am doing my timing belt, alternator is removed and I have a lot of access to the compressor.

There is a bracket on the AC compressor that ties into the alternator bracket. Is this absolutely necessary?

The manual states the belts are same length for AC and non AC...Any input???

Thank you!

If it isn't working and you have no intention of using it, I say leave the compressor on there. Why open up that can of worms? And I believe the belts are indeed different lenghts...

The bracket is not necessary, the Alt is still being held in with both bolts. I have a smaller diameter lightweight crank pulley so I'm not sure what the size would be with the stock one. (I don't even remember the size of the belt I have on there, I'd have to find out)

I just used a piece of string at half tensioner adjustment to figure out what I needed.

no sense in removing it. its not putting any load on the motor with it on there so why waste the effort.

I guess if the clutch bearing is bad and wants money thrown at it, you could delete it. What you need to know is if the ALT pulley has a straight shot at the crank pulley. Running a string around both give a pretty good idea.

The downside side is the direction the alt moves to tension the belt (upwards not away from the crank). It pulls at a step angle away from the AC so getting the right belt and having it hold the proper tension w/out the AC compressor as an idler pulley might actually be problem.

Resale value is another consideration. . .
