I need help with cam timing marks! I am working on a 2000 camry 5sfe 4cyl. I found some photos on this site showing the marks on the intake and exhaust cams but mine are a little different. My exhaust cam has , from 9 oclock, clockwise 2 dots, a single dot and another single dot. The intake has 2 single dots and a larger dimple. I am thoroughly confused. Can anyone help?

Ha! I think they're worried about your user name! What does that say about you? lol hey, just kidding and welcome!

So, your saying you had the cams out of the head?

If that answer is no, just place the cam belt drive gear back on the camshaft and align that gear to the mark on the heads cover. Align the crankshaft to the index on the timing cover at TDC and install the timing belt.

If the answer was yes, than your saying you have the cams out we need index them properly. Lets use the search and find a picture with photos and you should be OK. There are many so be patient and someone will chime in with input if its the later of the two because you have to align the spring loaded gear properly too!

This is bank2 on a V6, should look about like this. . .

Thanks, my username comes from an apron that I have that has a Bear on it wearing a chefs hat , holding a frying pan with a trout in it in one paw and a spatula in the other. I know, its kind of kooky, but I actually smoke pork shoulders and Beef briskets for a country store nearby.

as for the timing alignment marks, check the FAQ section, there is at least 3 threads on it with pictures:

some must fit more or less
