1998 Toyota Camry LE Transmission!!

Hello Toyota Nation!

I'm new to this forum, but i have a very serious question and i need help. I'm not very mechanically inclined, but i can follow good advice.
Car has 128,000 miles on it. Just had transmission serviced, and a oil gasket replacement.

I have a 1998 Toyota Camry Le 4 cylinder as stated in the title. Recently i was driving and while i was at a stop sign my cars engine randomly jerked/shakes. Luckily the light turned green and i wanted to get home so i didn't have to push or tow my car home because i was so close. As im driving through my neighborhood, my car starts revving at high rpms and im pressing on the gas so the car wont die. i do this like two more times until i get on my street and let go of the pedal and cruise into my parking space at my house, then the car shuts off.

I went out the next day, and the car starts, and the idle stick is wavering right below the 1 rpm mark. i haven't driven it any where, and im trying to figure out what to do. I had to skip going to school this fall because of this. I don't know if i should just get a new car or try to fix this situation? If this doesn't help ill update after mechanic and give more info. Im just going on the thought that the car is about 12 years old, and someones had to experience this before.

Im pretty sure its the transmission, so what im trying to figure out is. Have many others experienced something like this? And what did you do? Im going to take it to my mechanic but i want to get some advice first.

Thanks anyone for advice, im in a terrible situation.

Check the level of transmission fluid first. Note, you need to check it with engine RUNNING.

Hi: This does not sound like a tranny situation, sounds more like fuel and/or idle problem. If the tranny were involved the car would jerk enough to be felt (like you're driving a manual tranny) andwould immediately stall as soon as you stop. Sometimes a fuel and/or idle problem can cause the symptoms you described (like a non functioning injector(s)) with regard to high revving. Does this problem happen only when the engine is warm?

what i described only happened to me once. and it was during the night time, and for the the 10 mins i was out i never exceed 50mph. so i guess the engine was kind of warm. I am very low on gas also, thats what i originally thought was the problem(that i was out of gas).

My cars engine bay is louder then it used to be also. Sorry im terrible with cars. Im trying to get my friend whos better with cars to come over and see whats up before i take it to the mechanic.

That is exactly why I am saying to check the level. If you don't do it yourself you can't be sure it is done right. Never trust mechanics, always check yourself. This simple rule may save you from buying new car or expensive repair of engine or transmission...
