93 V6 Resonator Pipe Price Question

Hello everyone, thank you for looking at my thread.

Yes this IS another “am I getting ripped off” thread. Please bear with me; the search engine did not yield any useable results.

My car is a 1993 V6 with a 3VZ-FE

Today I discovered my exhaust is rotted out from the resonator pipe to the muffler. My mechanic said 350 for parts and labour (new pipe and muffler).

Is this a fair deal? Or can I source out some cheap parts and pay labour only.

If it’s cheaper to buy my own parts, can anyone recommend a decent aftermarket Resonator Pipe?

I was considering the following:

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Toyot...ts_Accessories

http://www.car-stuff.com/carparts/to...tings+Page%3A3

If I get the Walker, does the lack of resonator affect emissions?

Many thanks,

Jordan

Here are pics of the pipe

I redid my whole system a few months back for similar reasons (flex pipe broke, everything else rusted together). Got my parts on ebay, guy was somewhere in toronto. costed, dunno, maybe $500, $600 total, did everything myself. It sounds a lot cleaner now, like a G35/37, and the proper y-pipe helps a lot with power. It's relatively simple, since you're just bolting on new parts, so I'd suggest not taking it to a mechanic (for $350 on the entire system, you're likely to get crap parts - both mechanics I got quotes from were in the $800 dollar range on parts only, with labour came into about $1300 ).

btw, your Cat converter will have to go - the flanges are rusted as hell, so they're bound to break sooner rather than later. Downpipe flange is likely in the same condition, I'm assuming.

Thank you for your reply,

Would you be able to point me in the right direction for the seller on Ebay? It would be much appreciated!

I actually replaced the down pipe about 6 months ago. So the only things that should need to be replaced are the long pipe, and muffler

I think your first link is the vendor I used - not sure though, since your resonator appears much larger than the one I currently have. Didn't find one like mine, but the price seems very similar. will check the other computer later on, might have something there

LOL thanks for the offer, I wish I had that kind of dough.

Any opinions on the 350 price for the resonator and muffler? Am I getting ripped off, or is this a fair deal?

Many thanks

Jordan

Well, I offer 30% off MSRP to TN members plus actual shipping costs plus a couple of dollars for materials, etc. Even at that its $589.00 before shipping and duties, etc.

Keep that in mind.

So from the looks of it, 350 for parts, and labour is a fair deal?

I have a cherry complete exhaust removed without breaking anything fron a '92 3VZ FE that puked it's motor.
Flex pipe, cat and all the way back. All Gen. Toyota in excellent condition.

Thank you very kindly for the offer, but I must decline, I fixed it today.

Took the car to Minute Muffler on St. Clair (For Toronto members)
http://maps.google.ca/maps?hl=en&saf...ed=0CCoQnwIwBA

They installed a Walker resonator pipe and welded the muffler back on. In total it cost me 200.00 + HST

They are decent and offer reasonable prices as long as you know EXACTLY what you want done on the car. Otherwise they may try to take you for a ride.

Hope this helps some of you,

Jordan
