clock stuck on 1:00

1993 toyota camry sta wagon le v6;
the clock displays 1:00 all the time, I have searched and searched but can't find anything to point me in the right direction to fix it.
one thread mentions that there is power for the display and another source of power to run the clock, but stops there and doesnt say where the power for the clock source comes from. I have checked all fuses that I can find, all are good. the dome light, cigar lighter, and all other dash features and lights work.
please help with any ideas.

Grasping at straws but maybe the buttons stuck down and there is no electrical prob?

You are correct tho, 1 ground (-), 1 hot +12v hot all the time (running time), 1 +12v to illuminate when the key is on, and 1 wire that dims it when the head lights are on. So 4 wires total.

Either, you lost the ground (unlikely) cause it does light up when the key is on, you lost the +12v hot all the time (possible but unlikley), the buttons stuck or the clock died.

You'll have to pull it to test power. The dash panel comes out easy do a search, but I'd play with the left button for minute before you do this.


Edit: theres a crystal oscillator on the clock and it might have died which could result in stopping time! Thus time travel is not an option! so you need a new clock if gnd and the +12v hot are OK.

ok ill play with it, i have pushed and released all the buttons but will try again.
where does the power come from to power the clock all the time( not display) what fuse?

This comment implies its on th dome light circuit.

Sorry, don;t have schematic for the car - From the GEN 3 Body Electrical pg 159 we have this.

(a) Check that the battery positive voltage is 10 – 16 V. If voltage is not as specified, replace the battery.
(b) Check that the DOME fuse is not blown. If the fuse is blown, replace the fuse and check for short.
(c) Troubleshoot the clock as follows.
HINT: Inspect the connector on the wire harness side.

CLOCK LOSES OR GAINS TIME

(a) Check that the battery positive voltage is 10 – 16 V. If voltage is not as specified, replace the battery.
(b) Inspect the error of the clock. Allowable error (per day): ± 1.5 seconds. If the error exceeds the allowable error, replace the clock.
(c) Check that the clock adjusting button is sticking in position and has failed to return. If the button is not returned, repair or replace the clock.
(d) Troubleshoot the clock as follows.
HINT: Inspect the connector on the wire harness side.

I know when I do PDI's on new cars there is a short fuse that we have to install to get the radio and clock to work.

ok, all good info, the dome light and radio work fine, all fuses behind the ashtray on left of steering wheel all appear to be good.
the battery for the car is about amonth old and have had no signs of it not being fully charged or that it hesitates to start the car.

I will try to pull the clock tomorrow and visually inspect the connector and see if im getting 12vlts to the clock.

(at what location do you install the "short fuse" on new cars, but again the radio works fine)

On the new cars its in the fuse block under the hood but not sure if one this old has it.

I was going to say check the fuse for the dome light (which is under the hood).. I recently had this happen and the dome light was out, along with the clock very dim. The trunk light was also out. Not sure what else it could be!
