I have been trying to replace the stock radio/cassette on my 1993 camry XLE. I have so far purchased 3 wiring harnesses and the are all wrong..I have a one piece harness and they keep sending me the harness with the 2 pieces..and all the customer service people swear that it will fit all toyotas and lexus from 87 up..it has a factory amp under the passenger seat.here are the wires/colors on the single harness 2 white, 2 black,2 brown, 3 green, 2 reds , 1 yellow, 1 black/red, 1 white/green for a total of 14 wires..can any one tell me please which wires does what..I have install car radio's before but this is **** confussing. I have read almost everything on this forum from what they are saying there is no aftermarket radio harness for the xle model with the factory amp. I need to know which color wire goes to what speaker..and do I have to bypass the factory amp..thanks in advance
Here goes, I am not sure how close the wiring is for the audio system on he Lex and Camry... in 93 there was not much difference between the two... so I will share with you what I know regarding this system....your right regarding the amp under the seat, the radio feeds the amp,, which in turn feeds the speakers...two in the back, two in the bottom of the door, two at the front of the dash, and two just below the mirrors... I can send you a copy of the 93 lexus wiring diagram..and answer lots of questions via email or pm as for details... I had to completely rewire mine as the previous owner had really chopped it up...so I learned the entire system....hopefully this gives you an idea of what your up against. I also installed the oem CD player, which also was fun..... any help I can give you just give me a buzz.....
if you have an amp under the passenger seat you have to bypass it! at some point your one piece harness SHOULD splice into a 2 piece harness... thats where you disconnect the old harness and plug your new one... if i remember correctly (was some time since i did this) i had the same initial problem as you... i had a 2 pieces harness for the new radio and there was only one connector in the car... like i said just look further... you have to disconnect 2 plugs in the car and plug your harness in them...
The info you need regarding single vs. double harness is on page 3. I have a 95 XLE and it was EXACTLY as this said. Single harness into my factory deck which has the amp under the seat. Double harness tucked away behind the deck. Wiring harness from Crutchfield for my aftermarket deck mated up with the double harness exactly.
Good luck.

with the instructions provided I installed the radio wire harness and the after market radio in 20 minutes, no bypassing the amp, no splicing everything works like it came out the factory could not have been easier
Not to stir the pot, but how'd you not by-pass the amp? I guess I've never seen a harness that allowed you to keep it on line. Besides, I think its output is like 18w per channel or less??

Darn, you beat me too it!!
OP look at the page 7 of the PDF that has all the info you need to wire your stereo, forget those silly harnesses.
The camry wiring harness for the car supports both the standard radio which does not need the amp, and the premium one which does.... in the lex. there is only the one option, the only thing that was available was the premium radio, whether on not you wanted the CD was the only option... so when the factory designed the wiring harness for the Lex, they did not have to accomodate the non-amp....If you would still like a copy of the wiring for the Camry, let me know and I will send it to you.... well done...
