Cam Plug Question - Toyota Nation Forum : Toyota Car and Truck Forums

I will finally be tackling my valve cover this weekend, got my parts on Tuesday, but I was looking at the rubber/metal cam plug on the drivers side camshaft(5S). Does it pry off, slide off, or what? I'm nervous about forcing the old one out of there. Suggestions?

There's a cap over it. Remove the cap, and it's pretty much just sitting there. Should be able to pull or tap it out. You won't damage anything removing it, unless you take a hammer and miss.

Uhh. When I removed mine it was dry (e.g. no RTV). Though since it's rubber, I would lightly coat it with oil, kinda like an oil filter.

But I installed mine without oil, and it's just fine.
