Valve Cover Gasket Torque - HOW?

Also...how are you supposed to measure torque on a bolt like this?

I have a torque wrench that mates up to a 3/8" socket, don't have any sockets big enough for that nut...

TIA,

30MM is correct for the socket size.

Do you have a Harbor Freight Tools retail store in your area? If so, you might be able to pick up a torque wrench there at a decent price, without waiting for one to be shipped to you.

No Harbor Freight here.

I have a "beam-style" torque wrench. The 30mm 1/2 drive socket I got on ebay will be perfect, and this job can wait for now.

I replaced my rear sway bar bushings instead! Easy-peasy.

If you have an Autozone or Advance Auto parts in your area you could have gotten one from their loan-a-tool program possibly, but it is nice to have your own. It's also used for the axle nut on the wheels.

You said your torque wrench is 3/8 drive, so you'll need to get an adapter in order to mate to the 1/2 drive socket.

That should work fine. I have a friend who thinks the beam type torque wrenches are actuallly more acturate than the cheap clicker style torque wrenches, at the lower ends of the torque settings. He is a long time tool and die man, so I value his opinion.

D'OH! Should have asked Autozone. Would have saved the $10 but like you say this way I have my own.

The TW is actually 1/2", I forgot I had a 3/8" adapter on there. So we're good!

I have heard the same, which is why I got this one years ago!
