what oil does toyota use for oil changes?

Hey there,

Ive got a leak in my oil sump somewhere, was looking to top off my oil level this wkend, not interested in doing a full oil/filter change at this time.

I know my 98 camry uses 5w30, but do i need to know what brand and type of oil the top off with (synth or otherwise)?

PS, im on the line with toyota but i havent been able to get in touch with a mechanic there the last hour...

Thanks in advance.

Use any 5w-30 non synthetic or synthetic blend oil you want. It doesn't matter if you top off the oil with a different brand, they're all basically the same, just a few different detergents and oil add-ons. Just do me a favor and don't use Walmart's house brand "Supertech"....it's really sh*tty oil. I don't recommend full synthetic as it will make a leak more obvious (not make it worse, just make it more obvious).
