95 camry AC issue

Hey guys,

So I'm back with one problem fixed and another problem to tackle. So I bought this car a few weeks back and although its been great to drive its also given me more problems then my other 96 camry. Anyways on with the issue.

My car was picked up without the AC working. After much investigation I had a mechanic hook up the Freon machine at which point my condenser literally started spewing out stuff and it was deemed to be a bad condenser. We reinstalled a brand new condenser, recharged the system and I was on my way with freezing cold AC again

However, about 2 days after this while sitting in traffic my car began overheating. I towed it to a friends house (toyota mechanic) and we realized my radiator fan was completely seized up. Needless to say we replaced the fan with a new one and we figured out that the fuse for the fan was also blown...replaced that with a 30 amp fuse. Now the car is not overheating anymore and the fan for the radiator engages when the car is idling, however my AC is no longer working now.

My question is, being the system for the AC wasn't working for a while before the condenser was replaced, could the overheating and fan issue have anything to do with my AC not working anymore or is this more likely to be a freon leak in the system? I had my mechanic put dye in the freon before recharging the system so hopefully if it's a leak it will be visible and be able to diagnose the problem further.

Can someone also give me insight about which fuses/relays to replace or check before spending more money on this AC issue?

Thanks

Is the compressor engaging/running? I wouldn't think the overheat incident would have caused the problem. After replacing the condenser did they check for other leaks or just assume that was the only one?

Thanks for the reply. So as it stands before putting in the condenser my ac compressor would not engage at all. What we did it jumped the relay for the ac and it started the ac compressor so this essentially eliminated the compressor from the issue. Now once we replaced the condenser and recharged the system, the compressor would engage as it normally should when the ac was switched on. Now after this whole ordeal the compressor isn't engaging again which leads mr to believe I either a) blew a fuse in the whole overheating process or b) there is in fact another leak in the ac system. As of then, it had been a while since the ac had worked so I don't think there were visible leaks. Like I mentioned though, there is now dye in the system so I'm hoping this will lead us too the underlying issue. Are these systems known to have a lot of problems? Is it often that ac parts in these cars go bad or moreso that the system leaks?

Hope we can have more people chime in who may have experienced similar issues

thanks

In my opinion the A/C system in the Camry is pretty reliable and I would first suspect a leak.

The compressor won't engage if the system is low on refrigerant, so if it were me, I'd be tempted to force it on like you did before and observe the sight glass for bubbles. But there might not be any if the system leaked out too much and it does sound like you had a "fast" leak if that is indeed the problem.

you can check: heater relay(HTR), magnetic clutch relay(MG/CL),dual pressure switch(or singl ''''''''')

1st thing OP needs to check is his pressure......not all the rest....if he has no pressure.....then his compressor will never kick on....if he charges and it does...then loses....O-ring and problem solved

if he has MASSIVE pressure with nothing...compressor is shot....super low pressure AFTER a fillup....condensor.....lets not make a simple problem into more than it needs to be just yet

Thanks for the responses guys. As it stands my buddy who recharged the freon for me is thinking the same thing, a very fast leak. Now you mentioned the o ring? I am assuming this is located on the compressor? Condenser?

Like I mentioned my 96 camry still blows freezing cold air so I'm gonna be optimistic and say between this forum full of valuable assets like you guys and having a qualified Toyota mechanic asy good buddy, we can tackle and fix this issue for sure. I am thinking just to eliminate the issue I'll be checking all the electrical before anything. If nothing is found, we will throw the 95 camry up on the hoist this week and see if there's any visible freon leaks.

Thanks again guys

ps..as of last night the radiator fan seems to be engaging just fine, however when I turn on the ac it's as if nothing happens. No compressor engagement, Rpms remain the same whereas before they used to go up 100 or so rpms. The other thing is to my recollection the ac fan is not kicking in.

i think your problem is Ac dual pressure switch.
