4th Generation DIY Interior lights upgrade 1998 Camry: SMD strip install foot wells, rear seats

Hi everyone, lurker for a long time here, finally joined.

So, poor, almost depressing, interior lightening in my girls camry ('98 LE no sun roof) finally got to me! im upgrading it. found on ebay some SMD white LED 12" strips ( link) and thinking about a way to hook them up in the front foot wells and under front seats (in the back - to light space in the rear) so they come on when the doors open and/or when the car is in "park" gear. will also replace stock dome and glove box lights with LED's.

Most logical solution would be to connect LED strips to the dome light (like this person did here)...but the problem is, i just looked and it seems to me its impossible to pull the wire under the roof out and down along the side pillar, there is this plastic piece that blocks the access to the wire...

So my question is where else can i hook up these lights to achieve my original goal? Any way to make them come on when the gear is put in "park"? sorry but i am not very familiar with electronics on this model...

I will take pics and write up a small DIY once im done.

p.s. I also noticed that she does not have door lights, which is really cheap of toyota IMHO..will have to do something about this as well.

dealextreme seems to have good selection of strips.. anyone had any experience with strips from them? my understanding is i will have to add a resistor as the voltage can get above 12V..
