Temperature Gauge Rises??? Please respond

I have a 2000 Toyota Camry LE - 4cyl. I have a new radiator, new thermostat, new radiator cap, new temperature control sensor, new coolant, new radiator hoses. However, when I stop or in traffic for any length of time, the temperature guage goes up. It does come back down after I proceed / accelerate. It does NOT go up in the red section - just near it. What could be the problem? At a wits end with this...it was tested and thermostat is opening when it should & fans are operating. Please help me with a response. Thank you.

Sounds like you have the same problem I was experiencing. If you are only overheating at idle and when you begin driving it cools down then you simply have an issue with your rad fan. Check your fan to make sure like mine that it is not seized and still spinning. Do this when the vehicle is off and monitor it once you start the car. In the case of the fan being messed up, it may have blown a fuse and/or relay as well. Check to make sure the fan is working by a) jumping the relay in the fuse box near the battery. b) Unplug the temperature sensor on the botton of your radiator. This will ensure turn on the fans automatically. If they do not turn on it means your temperature sensor is not functioning.

Check your fans...

I had the fans checked professionally at the garage. They said they were working like they should. Of course, it wasn't a Toyota garage though. They told me not to worry about the gauge fluctuating, but I do. It never did that before.

Hook up a ODBII reader like Scangauge II or Ultra-gauge to read the coolant temp sensor (the one the ECU uses) vs yer analog gauge.

Yes, Check your fan operation, check that it is blowing in the right direction, then also check that your A/C Condenser is not clogged up with bugs and road grime. You also did not mention if you replaced the water pump, the impellers in the pump can become corroded or rust off the ends slowing flow at low pump speeds.
You may want to also check that your gage is reading correctly, Should be about 1/2 at around 190 F.
