Info needed for purchasing wheels

So lately I've been looking to get a new pair of shoes for the Camry.. the problem is, all I look for is 5 x 114.3 and an offset about +30-50.. what else do I have to look for in terms of fitment. Should I be looking for a certain rim width? I've seen some ranging from 6" to 8" that I'd like to put on the car. Tried searching but it seems threads are wheel specific, whereas I need a general guideline to look for wheels. Thanks.

I think posting on the Discount Tire forum will also help your search. (Sorry for the lame post but i have not much of a clue when it comes to tires )

Wish I could test fit the wheels.. but I'm looking at online stores mostly so I won't get the chance to do that. Guess I'll have to take the chance! Can't wait for new wheels.. should I worry if they are 8" wide or more? And if the offset is above +45, I'll have to worry about putting spacers too right? But putting spacers on the front wheel is a bad idea I hear, so I'll try to stick with less than +45 offset I'm assuming.

the wider you go, the lower you are gonna want your offset. a 6" wheel will fit ok with a 50mm offset, but an 8" would fit better with something in the 30mm's. id stick with 8" or lower...7.5s are perfect. if ya have wheels that are about or more then 50mm offset then you will likely need spacrs.

also keep weight, how low you are and want to go, road conditions and how good a driver you are (be honest). your not gonna want 19" wheels with a 30 stretched sidewall if the roads suck and you curb your wheels from time to time.

other then that just pick a style ya like.

Point of reference to get you going:
17" X 7" +38mm TSW Volcano's fitted with 225 50 17s" leave about a 1/2 inch between the tire sidewall and the strut tube. No chance of tire cables or chains goin in here. Tire is 8.86" wide, 25.86" tall. Tire can rub on rear lip if the camber goes positive.

Now depending on the tire, the sidewalls vary a little and some tires may rub the fender or strut if you exceed this width by too much so you'll have to roll your fender in the rears.

So I saw these rims I really liked the style of which were 7.5" width with 43 offset. My guess is that it won't fit and will rub??

I am using a set with these dimensions:

17"X7.5"
Offset: +40

I still have to put in a 20 mm set of spacers for the rear.

I believe the best flushed offset for the front wheels is +35. I remember talking to a TN old timer with a +35 offset flushed to the fenders. He just put in spacers for the rear.

I could have used a RWD offset for the rear to really flush it but I just don't like the view of a FWD car with thicker lips in the rear.

Try to go with the lightest set of wheels you can find. You might find the weight of the wheels you have in mind here.

Also, don't skimp on your tires (don't buy the cheapest tires for a particular size).

Does anyone know the weight of the stock wheels so I can compare when I'm buying new ones?

Is it wrong to assume that it's better to have higher offset, than too low? With higher offset, I have a chance of making them fit with spacers, but if the offset is too low.. the only option I'll have is to roll the fenders correct? Is that a hard process, how much does it cost at the shop?

Haha, then I guess anything I go with will help in terms of handling and acceleration (however minimally of course).

If I put spacers in the rear, is it recommended that I also put them in the front?
