3rd & 4th Generation (1992–1996 & 1997–2001)Toyota Camry Discussion for years: 1992-1996 & 1997-2001
Topics of discussion range from fuel economy, safety, modifications, performance all involving America's favorite family car, the Toyota Camry.
I freaking LOVE this car!! While its nothing special or even much to look at.....it has not given me one ounce of trouble!!! 275,xxx miles and I got over 300+ miles on a 3/4 tank of gas, my ac is freezing me right out (yes, I know I say that every time but drive for over a year without in a luxury car and leather...youll say it too!!)....
I am on the hunt for some rims and a stereo....and I think for the time, it will be finished in my eyes....paint SOMEDAY and definitely a interior detail coming.....cant stand dirty and it is QUITE dirty....but the fuel mileage won my heart....the fact I havent had to do ANYTHING to it.....since the day I bought it....I cant say that about my either of my legends or my last cavalier (which I drove 250,xxx miles and sold for more than I bought it for...so yes I clean cars up quite well)....I think the camry is here to stay for quite awhile
The main reason for the long range on a tank of fuel in this car is from the big tank, Its right around 18.5 Gal. So at 300 miles to 3/4 tank (13.8 gal) your getting around 22 mpg, That's pretty good mileage (I get about 24mpg from mine), But don't confuse fuel range with mpg.

Well Camry's are the most engineered cars in the world.
Over a billion dollars went into the engine development alone.
When I worked for Toyota Engineering - they spared no expense on saving production costs and reducing time while increasing quality- those commercials about $100,000 torque attachments to the line robots was true.

yeah i was going to say...gen3 and 4 were the most engineered. it was down hill from there.
I'm actually leaning towards a 3vz wagon right now.
I wonder how the gen 2's were...

Why 3VZ? I always thought 1MZ is better than 3VZ (1MZ has no distributor, lighter, more powerful)? Plus, this means that your car will be 92-93 with hydraulic fans (another potential leak). I actually like the 95 1MZ - no hydraulic fans already (like it was in 94) and no "waste spark" ignition system yet (introduced in 96). Plus, I like gen3.5 (95-96) look more than gen3 (92-94).
Just my 2c.

The 3vz has more power potential and a MUCHHH broader torque band. It also sounds better. Stock forged internals (sans pistons) are also good for 350whp. Swap to forged pistons and it's good for 450whp. I also lose the passenger airbag (into'd in 94). And no OBDII to fool around with. I think it's a fair trade off.

forgot to mention that with about 5 min of time, you can bump it to 200 hp and 204 lb-ft. with a ypipe, and polished intake, you're looking at 220-230 hp
and it sounds like the biggest, baddest, most pissed off porsche you ever heard... and then some

Need performance parts?
Shoot me a PM, I'll see what I can do
Ok, you guys are talking performance enhancements......where do I start finding these? I am totally LOVING my car....(which for me is VERY rare)...last car I can honestly say I LIKED was my gen2 Legend...which besides the HG issue that is constant to those.....was a AWESOME car (and those fellas have now figured out how to FI and keeping their AC...one I know of is even twin charged now....fast lil sucker....I DID love the way my Legend handled and felt.....I want that in my Camry (I am a 94 so I guess I have the goods parts you say? How very lucky for me since I usually wind up buy the worst one and learn later.
I would like one day, up the handling and add a lil sport to it and tear up some canyons (staying auto though....too lazy to shift anymore )
lend me out some ideas, links, pics...whatever ya got so I can start making a plan for my new baby.....
Whats really funny....I bought the thing to just drive....wasnt gonna mess with....I find myself wanting another to play with.....I quickly have become a Toyota and Camry fan (mom and pop have a 97 which I dont think looks as good bodystyle to me......but damn theirs is CLEAN with well over 100K on it....4 banger, auto, 4dr, golden colored)....Dad is also rolling a 05 Avalon which I simply ADORE....thats such a neat car
Yes the cupholders suck...but since last 2 cars didnt have any at all....Ill take crappy...it holds my 32 oz well enough
