shaking when slowing down

So for some reason my car shakes fairly bad when I am braking to slow down so I thought maybe its my brakes so I bought some new pads for the front and checked out the rotors they didn't seem to have any abnormal wear or anything.

when I went to test drive it, it still shakes bad so I'm thinking its the drums in the back but before I change them do y'all think the problem could be else where.

thanks
mike

if the shaking relates to some steering wheel wvibrations, i think it still might be related to front brakes, rotors actually. they might be warped beyond visible. only running some run out test (or something called similar) tells the truth, but honestly, since you've got new pads, why not get new Brembo Replacement rotors for them ?

I agree. Warped rotors. Replace them before they trash your new pads! I have warped rotors on my truck right now, and I can't visibly see any problem.

OK yeah could be now that I recall I think one of the pads were a bit uneven man I knew I should of replaced everything all together.

Alright I guess I will try that, will save me from dealing with the drums for now anyways haha.

thanks guys

drums usually don't need any work for a VERY long time. all i did on them a year ago was adjustment with a star wheel (there is a hole in drum body so you can do that without actually removing drum cover, only pry out a rubber plug).

the goal is to make the drum shoes sit snug (when wheel moves completely freely you want to tighten that star wheel a bit until snug).

it only takes 2 flat screwdrivers to do that (after wheel removed), one to pry up the bar and the other one to turn the star wheel.
just don't make them too tight, so the wheel barely spins

take care of front brakes, the discs usually need much more attention. swap the rotors and re-grease the caliper sliding pins with new lube like Permatex Ultra Disc Brake Lube, etc. (you can get them in small pouches from local autozone).
make sure all those caliper guide pins (both sides) are moving freely with 2 fingers only.
when one of them is sticky it will cause uneven pad wear.

which side of pads was uneven inner or outer ? or rather they were uneven for the whole wheel setup compared to the other side ?

sorry to say tht bro, but if inner pads are wearing off faster than outer ones then the caliper piston might be sticky. usually it means you should get a re-manufactured calipers. otherwise it means you need (most likely) to do a caliper piston rebuild which includes removing caliper from brake line, removing piston, cleaning all and replacing all o-rings and seals with new ones. very tricky process, much easier to replace the whole caliper.

Yer mounting frame (the part that holds the pads in place and allows the caliper to apply even pressure to the rotor) may be sticking. This can be easily rebuilt and lubed up.

The shaking is definitely yer rotors being warped. Time to pull and replace.

Here's an interesting article on Brake Rotors.

There's lots of other information on the site as well.
