Power Steering Flush Question

I am toying with the idea of doing a PS flush. I noticed that the fluid in the tank is clear, and someone here on the board made mention that the dealers use a clear fluid instead of the Dex specification that the writing on the top of the cap says. I know there are DIY's for this here on the forums. Is there any hurt of switching back to Dex, or should I just leave it alone? The fluid looks OK, but fluid color is not necessarily an indication of condition. Suggestions and advice highly welcome.

DEXRON is pretty much a high quality hydraulic fluid to start, that is why many P/S systems will use that. It is usually thinner than most p/s fluids also.

Dexron ATF also has additives called friction modifiers in order to tailor the clutch engagement characteristics in a transmission or wet brake system. The friction modifiers do little in the p/s system.

Most PSF and ATF are the same visc.

PSF simply is cheap as it doesn't need to meet all the specs required by the AT.

Definitely use ATF, and upgrade to a full synthetic or at least a blend.

You require dexron, use it.
