98 Camry Engine swap

Been poking around the search for a while but can't seem to find answers that pertain to me directly and I don't want to try to do this when I've gotten the wrong thing.

I have a 1998 Toyota Camry w/ 5SFE. The Vin and car saying Canada & Federal. So I know I need one of these type 5SFEs for the engine connections, including electrical wire harnesses, to connect correctly with little hassle. I have quite a bit of experience with cars, just not a whole lot with modifications or with engine internals. So I just want to get an engine and transmission direct replacement. I've looked around here and in my car and that doesn't seem to be that hard. I have a hoist and whatever tool I need that I don't have, I can get. But, my biggest worry is my computer won't work with some jap engine.

My engine is leaking about 1/2 to a full quart of oil a week from a seal that will require a full tear down. The engine is also at 165,000 miles, so it needs a new timing belt as well. No point in doing that if the engines just gonna rip open and start leaking more. And the cost of tear down will probably be more than just dropping in a new motor. Besides, my engine feels pretty dogged out in the florida heat. The tranny feels strong still, but I'd rather get a motor that has one attached so I don't have to mess with it. I know plug and play with cars just doesn't happen, but I'm trying to get as close to that as possible.

I've found this: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Jdm-T...item3a5eaba8c7 amongst several others online. They sell these engines for american cars, but I don't understand how if they came from a japanese car. Am I looking at the right thing? car-part.com also pointed me in the direction of engines in my area.

Honestly...you get what you pay for.

JDM engines will fit with modification. They play it off as no big deal, but it is kind of a big deal..I would never do that.

Find a local engine rebuilding shop. Napa sells Marshall (maybe Jasper) engines for pretty cheap..actually. Check out their online catalog.

They even deliver to your door!
