3rd Generation Noise after timing belt change

Upon acceleration, the engine sounds slightly louder when it's cold than it originally was before I got the timing belt replaced. When the RPMS go up, just before the shift, there's also a separate noise that seems to be coming from the timing belt area, almost like the loose PS belt noise, but more pronounced and heavier. This only happens when the engine is cold/is below normal operating temperature. Is this the normal result of a new timing belt? Thanks. 96 I4

No, a new timing belt job should often result in an engine that's quieter, smoother, and more powerful than one with an old (and slightly stretched) t-belt.

If on a 5-yr/60K mile schedule, it should at least run quieter primarily because of new bearings (pulleys and pump).

I would suspect an improperly tensioned t-belt first. Then check the crank pulley bolt tension. And yes, I think engines without automatic tensioners stink.

You can rule out the ac/alt and ps belt by removing them and run the engine (not too long however because you'll drain the battery).

Thank you for the tips. I will attempt to do some diagnosis myself and see where I get.
