3rd & 4th Generation (1992–1996 & 1997–2001)Toyota Camry Discussion for years: 1992-1996 & 1997-2001
Topics of discussion range from fuel economy, safety, modifications, performance all involving America's favorite family car, the Toyota Camry.
My Camry's been in a little accident :( really upset.
I really hate the rain, basically, while on one parkway, it's pouring buckets went through a LARGE DEEP puddle. Got onto another parkway, traffic. I go to stop, and it slows down almost all the way, to about 8-10 MPH...then bam not enough time for emergency brake, I hit a lady's Chevy. I rush to the side road but she hesitates then follows me, I want to make sure she's okay, by this time I'm tearing and really upset over my beloved Camry, she says don't worry about it, no cops, she leaves.
I'm still hysterical and just so upset over my car, I wonder if this is possible lol, to be this upset over it .
I hurry to college, I've calmed down now and it hurts me...and I'm posting this now because it's been killing me all day.
It's the front bumper/fender, it's got a big tear in it, no buffing for this spot.
Above that, but under the hood, is a VERY small dent which I hope can be buffed out.
How much will this run about? Everything seems fine, radiator seems OKAY.
Damn dude I am sorry to hear that... youve got me worried about driving home in the rain now...
I would really like to say that that could be buffed out...but since its torn, you are going to have to bondo/patch it, sand and repaint...that would be the best fix...other than that bro...youre going to need a new bumper ...
Glad youre ok tho

Watch out for the build thread!!!
IM BAAAAAACK!!!!!!!
damage is minimal and limited to bumper only, it shouldn't bother you at all, you are from NY, aren't you!?
no one here cares about bumpers
Yah lol, you're right about that, it's minimal, but it bothers me my Camry was in really nice shape and now the bumper is crap lol.
Yah rain is killer, now I know to avoid puddles >_<.
The bondo fix sounds relatively cheap/simple for a mechanic, the whole bumper could run $$$. I don't care if it doesn't look perfect but if it's better than now...
At least I'm going to go run to the mall, take a survey and get $65...guess that's a good thing that comes from today.
Been having extremely bad luck lately, I swear whomever is out there that causes this just hates my family.
replacing bumper with such damage is quite expensive, can be around $500 for parts and labor around NY/NJ (been there, done that, no fun) ...
other than that try finding a local guy who can straighten it up, glue the crack and patch it up, sand it and so on, usually they charge like $50-$100 to fix thing like that. you would only need to prime it and paint it (base and clear coat).
but honestly, I would leave it like it is.

Well I still got to get my hood painted (original owner took a spray can to freshen it up, looked like crap, had to strip it and prime it).
So how much is the plastic bumper cost (non-painted)? And where in MA lol? If anybody knows where to get a bumper that's either black or stripped...really appreciated.
I'm willing to spend a large sum to fix this, maybe, I don't know, as of now I'm OKAY with it, but I really want to fix it...and now that I have to maybe fix this I can't do DEPOs and that annoys me >_<.
Any more suggestions? Guess I'll go check junk yards.
How much is it to buy a bumper? I know around $80 for paint/clear coat.
THAT COVER IS ONLY $20 + SHIPPING? Is that's what damaged on my camry or what? Looks ilke crystals on the inside of my bumper. I can deal with the screwed up bumper if I can cover this hideous hole. Might as well buy it and paint it myself...I actually know someone to put bumpers on. It says black paint to match but it's not painted right?
oh wait the shipping is $80 >_< fffff is there shops that sell this? The shipping is killing me. Is it hard to install? Even if I know someone I'd like to see how you do it.
They are big so shipping is expensive, but a shop would just tack that on to the price as well. Installing isn't hard at all, there are just like a million plastic tabs and little screws around the bottom edge, it think a few in the fender wells and on the top of the grill, and of course the marker lights. I haven't removed a gen 4 cover, only a gen 3.5, but it should be a similar procedure.
You will have to remove the cover and see what there is for damage underneath it. There is a big foam block behind the cover, and behind that is a thin metal beam that goes across the width of the front. From the pic it looks like most of the damage was done to the cover, and maybe a hole poked in the foam.
The metal beam isn't damaged from that, I'm almost positive. The foam might be.
A fibgerglass kit is no more than $10 at walmart.
You pretty much apply a cloth over top of the hole, and then apply resin over top of the cloth. And do that a bunch of times. Then sand it down. Then paint.
Dude, take a hair dryer and heat it up a bit. Push it out by sticking your hand behind the cover and pushing.
My front bumper had a enourmous dent put in by my neighbor. Big as a good sized football right in the corner under the turn signal light. 5 min of work with a hairdryer the dent is almost unnoticeable and I have a 550$ insurance check in my pocket.
I wouldent spend any money fixing that on a 10+ year old car. Push it out and Ill bet you no one will see it unless you tell them. Prop something between the tear and the foam absorber.
