4th Generation 01 Camry XLE Computer changed now Security Light on all the time.

The Check Engine light recently came on in my 2001 Camry XLE. The mechanic told me the computer needed to be replaced ($825). When I went to pick up the car I used my fob to unlock it. When I started it, I noticed the Security Light stayed on. I asked the mechanic about this but he said he hadn't seen the light come on at all while he was driving it. I think it may have something to do with me unlocking it with my key fob? When I got home I had to reprogram the second key fob to work with the car (it had worked before the computer replacement but not after). Now, if the key is not in the ignition, the Security light stays on all the time. If the key is in the ignition the Security light flashes all the time weather the engine is on or not. I spent most of the day Saturday looking for a solution, online, to no avail. I would appreciate any help.

Thank you.

does your car have an immobilizer (I assume so) ?

check Body Electrical manual (go to www.camrystuff.com) out and try programming your all ignition keys to the ECU (not only key fobs) using the working key as a Master.

I believe your ECU is not recognizing the transponder in ignition keys properly. It might add the current working one as a master automatically (there should be a procedure for that).

To test if it worked, try unlocking the door with a key (no fob) and starting engine and checking how the Security light behaves.

BTW, did the mechanic install new computer or a used one? $825 is quite below the dealer price for new computer and considering he charged you some labor rate too I would say he installed a used one, but then ... used ones can be purchased for like $100-200 and it takes 15 mins to replace them ... just saying...

Fenixus,

Thank you for your help! I learned through reading the Body Electrical manual that all I had to do was depress the brake 5 times, and it worked!

Thanks again!
