I had an idea for a little umbrella-trunk mod <_<.

I just hate having this umbrella thrown around in the car, or the trunk, it just looks messy, unorganized etc.

So I thought hey, you know those holes by the trunk light? What if hooks were put there or something like that, that kept the umbrella in place.

(here are the holes I'm talking about):

apparently you can see the top of my head.

I don't know, maybe this is a stupid idea lol, I was just trying to think of something new. Any idea what I could use for hooks etc.?

Lol that's neat, but I'm trying to find hooks or something that would sit still in the hole and be able to hold the umbrella at the same time, as well as cheap :P I got to take a look around.

Are there hooks that look like...

http://img155.imageshack.us/img155/7901/lololdd.png

The black = hole, red = hook, other = umbrella. The top part of the hook would be like a little bar that fits across the inside of the hole, while a little hook sticks outside, which secures the umbrella.

Maybe I'll have to make my own wooden hook lol unless this exists....or there's a better solution out there.

You could always drill two holes and put some U bolts in there to hold it. Might look kind of tacky though

Something like a U-Bolt could work, the loop could be small but the ---- bar would have to be long so it can sit in the hole...I need to stop by an ace hardware lol.

Maybe I can get a door hook, cut off the one tab so it's just a straight piece on top, and add something to make it a tad bit longer so it could sit in the hole...if this makes sense....

that might work, I guess it all depends on how thick that metal is though, if it bends easily then I would stray from it. This is a neat idea, cant wait to see it pan out!

If it's secure enough, you can even put it on the trunk lid itself. I actually think that'd be better since it would be "out of sight" unless you need it and having an umbrella where you put it would make the light not distribute into the trunk at night. Just my $.02

I have my umbrella to the left of my drivers seat haha

Whatcha mean put it on the trunk lid?

Also I forgot...the umbrella might block the light source...I can try putting the hooks the opposite way, that might work.

There may be some place to secure it onto the lid instead of where you have it.. so when you open your trunk you still have all the space there available. I have a sub box there so I wouldn't like the look of having a holder for an umbrella there, thats all.

Ohhh I see what you mean! I'll take a look, maybe further back into the trunk, maybe I can just get some adhesive hooks but I'm sure they will eventually fall off...

Why don't you mount it near the bumper on the bottom of the trunk (below the latch) instead of up top. You could find a plastic gun rack and cut all but one pair of hooks off of it and velcro or screw it in to the trunk lining

what about on the tip of the lid itself. behind the rear center panel on top of carpet. hard to kind explain the location exactly but that way when u open trunk its right there in ur face to remind you HEY IM AN UMBRELLA! lol thats the only spot i would do it in my car. keeps it out of the way. but then again i just keep mine under my drivers seat.

While scavenging the trunk, I found the BEST spot!

Those two metal bars don't seem to move when opening/closing the trunk and they seem to just be support bars.

What if I put hooks on them, used black tape to secure them (it wouldn't stand out), and place umbrella?

Or something like that.

I believe those 2 metal bars are the torsion bars fer the trunk lid... I would zip tie vs using tape.

You could just use some PVC pipe and secure that so you could slide yer umbrella in/out. Pretty low cost...
