4th Generation Need some help: Melted bulb holders!

was hoping you could help me again with figuring out what I need. Long story short the other day when i started my car my bulb out indicator went on and i realized its the two middle brake lights( the dual filiment bulbs) the one that lights up at night work but when I step on the brake they don't get brighter. I took some pics this morning of what I need

Rear Right Assembly:
Rear right wiring harness that I need to replace but can't figure out how to remove the white connector:

Melted bulb base:

Rear Left Assembly:
wiring harness that always needs to be replaced:

Rear Left overall wiring harness:

white connector that I need to remove to replace the wiring:

Off question, I'ive always wondered what this plug was for:
closeup of plug again:

anybody know how to remove the white connector in the pic 588 and 596?

thanks

The taillight assembly on the trunk of the gen 4 (97-99) don't light up with the brakes, only the gen 4.5 (00-01) Camrys does that. The blub looks burn out. Have you check the other brake lights and third-brake lamp?

Edited your title to make things a little more descriptive.

I still think that the new bulbs may have caused some melting over time. I'm not sure why though... tried to find any new holders at a junk yard yet? I'd just solder and heat shrink those suckers on.
