96 camry 5SFE (knocking noise during idle)..similar to fenixus thread :)

Hey guys,

So I haven't posted here in a while but have been super busy. Anyhow I have a question for you guys. I have recently noticed a weird noise coming from my engine bay (appears to be coming from around or behind the alternator) and seems to dissipate in noise when the engine is warm. Now..I have noticed over the past little while that when making a somewhat sharp left turn, I hear the clicking/knocking similar to the noise I hear at idle. It is not as apparent until about 2k RPM and above and like I said seems to get better as the car warms up.

My first instinct is maybe the power steering pump is starting to go? I have had my axles replaced (both front ones) about 2-3 years ago, so I am thinking it's non related to those. As for the sound, I am hopeful it's nothing major. Could anything internal in the engine be causing this noise?

the best way to describe the noise is a cross between a loud clicking and knocking noise...Fenixus...got any ideas? I am thinking since it's the same engine, we are experiencing the same issue, but I could be wrong...

when was the last time you changed your water pump? I recently ran into a knocking clicking sound that ended up being a worn out waterpump bearing. (replaced motor bearings too but thats a different story). Check your coolant levels, and check for leakage of antifreeze underneath the motor. Mine was just leaking out of the weep hole when the car was not running. Wouldnt leak when running. Something to check i guess

pull your timing cover, grab the belt and see if your waterpump pulley moves when you pull on the belt. if so its probably worn out.
