Hi,
I was just wondering with a Camry Gen3 (5S-FE Engine) what is the normal idle speed when in 'D' and stopped?
my one is at 790-800rpm.....i dont know if this is normal , since it is shaking at this speed, but if i give it a little gas to lets say 900-1000rpm, the shaking reduces dramatically, and the car feels normal.
ok, i misread my tacho (above) it idles at 730-780rpm and shakes a fair bit.....but if i rev it to about 900rpm the shaking is still noticable but is calm enough to bare.
so is there anyway to change the idle speed myself? or do you suggest i try looking at what else could be causing the problem before that?
750 rpm is the norm. If the car shakes real bad, you have bad mounts. The only way to adjust the idle is to tighten up the throttle cable. There is no idle adjustment.
increasing the idle speed would obviously be my last resort
how would you know if the engine mounts are bad? other than the fact that the car is shaking .
also, i dont know if this related or not, but when I feel the car shaking, and I turn on the foglights, headlights, anything electrical, the shaking seems to be a bit stronger with every additional thing i turn on....... I dont think this is the problem, but might somewhat be a small contributing factor.
I had the alternator replaced a year ago, but I can't remember if the car shoke before the replacement since I just bought the car at that time
Mine revs in the 800 range and also rattles when stopped and goes away with pressure from the gas. I was told that rack and pinion needed to be adjusted but im not to sure about that. I really dont think that turning on other electrical things would cause it though although...sometimes in my dads OLD toyota (79Supra) that does happen.
