I have a 1999 Camry LE 2.2. Just to the left of the steering column on the dash are 2 rectangular switch covers that you can take out. My question is. What switches go there? My local dealer parts guy can only find the "spare switch covers" in the parts catalog and they are $7.8o ea. I don't care what the switches have on written on them I want just the switches to use as on/off switches. Any ideas? Or maybe I just have to go to Radio Shack and get a couple switches and mount them in the cover plates. Thanks.
The gen 3's have access panels too. As far as I know they don't put switches on them. On my 95 one was used to mount the alarm led light which was dealer installed. There's another on my dash that is just there in order to gain access to dash bolts for removal.
No purpose for USDM models. They're just space fillers.
Edit: ACTUALLY, there's a fog light switch that can go there. Sorry about that.

Thanks for the info, looks like I have to go junk-yardin'!
well as far as finding stuff to put there, if you have a gen 4, i can actually help u get oem fog lights :P u get the kit from a guy off ebay for 220? can't remember off the top of my head at the moment, u buy the brackets from the dealer, the bezels and the switch :P it would be around 300 the bezels u have to paint, but it would but 100% oem and wire directly to your car. the switch p/n is 00550-35976 just fyi, if u call ur dealer if he says theres too many digits just tell him its in the accesories catalog, the switch is like 20$ and it fits perfectly into it :P if your interested more on the fogs let me know i have lots of pics when i did mine last may
oh and if u want i had the instructions i scanned in pdf i can e-mail them to u if u like
Thanks for the fog-light info but that's not in my price range at the moment I just wanted the switch for the on/off function. I am going to try and make my auto headlights manual and also be able to turn off the DRL's. My astronomy club hates when I pull in and ruin their night vision and/or any photos they may be taking.

It was snappylights, and he was taking offers of $120
I found this fog light switch from a Scion xA and it fit perfectly. Got it for $2 at the pick and pull. I'm not sure about the p/n but it looks cleaner then a rocker switch.
I believe one of them would hold the TRAC OFF switch on V6s with traction control.

PVT, Adalex said you were trying to use the fog light switch to disable/enable the DRLs and wanted a wiring diagram, right?

Yes I am trying to disable/enable DRL's and also disable/enable the auto headlight feature so I can turn the headlight on/off manually. I was going to splice an on/off switch into the light sensor in the dash to take care of the headlights, but I haven't really looked at the schematics for the DRL's yet.

Thankfully on my Cav, that was the simplest thing in the world to get rid of was the DRL's......pull one wire and they were off.....hated those damn things.
I am one of those people that will dig through other cars and use the blanks for other things I want to add in my car as well, while trying to keep a nice clean look.
Buddy actually put a Tahoe rearview mirror with the compass, outside temp and even the OnStar in his legend....you woulda thought it was a factory option he had.....and he spent forever and a day doing a full JDM console changeover, but by time it was done, it was world famous....there is even threads on Japan forums on all the work he did....impressive to say the least.
take some time, look at other vehicles and use a lil creativity and you can come up with something really cool

I haven't look at them recently either, but I KNOW it's one ground wire for the DRLs. I saw Toyota a service bulletin about this once. I'd use a relay to enable/disable the current flow through that wire... and just have a switch control it, of course. The headlights are the same way... I'd read over the diagrams and tap the ground wire (use the same relay setup) to kill them.

Thanks! If I am reading the schematic right I would be basically putting a switch in the ground wire coming of the DRL resistor? The connector for the resistor is easy to get to. As for the headlights I don't want to disable them completely, I want to be able to assume manual control over them. I am thinking I need to block (switch on/off) the signal from the sensor to do that.
