Hey guys I'm planning to install an AutoCommand Car Starter (28624T) for my 2000 camry. I don't have any experience with automotive electrical wiring. I was wondering whats the best way to connect wires to a relay. Any other tips/guides would be appreciated as well.
PS: I've read the DIY that is posted by the soap guy :P
I installed a remote starter(Avital4103)on a 2001 Camry and it works really well. If you go to http://www.the12volt.com/ they have all kinds of info on car stereos, alarms, remote starter, wiring diagrams, relays, etc.
Ah, thanks for the link.
Did you have to do some kind of security bypass?
On this particular model (LE) there were no security issues whatsoever... no alarms or immobilizer. I've heard that the XLE model has an alarm and immobilizer. Maybe it is an option on other models.

I have that info included as a link on my tutorial too.
oh haha. Well I've just take out all the panels under the steering wheel. Had my laptop on your tut the whole time! Made that part easy. I'll be working on the wiring etc. later on hopefully nothing goes wrong. Btw, Where did you put your relays?
This application did not require any relays (maybe there were some in the "brain?). Everything was a direct connection to a certain wire, with two 12V feed wires that went directly from the "brain" of the remote starter to the battery (fused, naturally). I have used relays before when experimenting with a hydrogen generator on another car (only wanted it energized when the fuel pump got energized), but neither of the remote starter systems I have installed had/required a relay (that I had to install). Sorry I cannot be more help there. What are you needing a relay for anyway if you don't mind me asking? A relay is usually used when you want one thing to "turn on the light switch" for another thing if I remember correctly.
Hmm I see. Well the manual requires the use of relays in order to install more features. It needs it for the horn(beeps when locked/unlocked), headlights(flashes when locked/unlocked), starter kill, and door lock/unlock.

I did not use any relays on my installation. I wired directly for everything, horn beep, lights flash, etc.
The instructions say to use relays for door triggers and parking lights(only if they draw 10 amps or more) but the Camry uses low current. I called the place where I bought the remote starter/keyless entry and they said relays were not necessary.
I had to use a relay for the second starter wire on a 2003 Nissan Altima but a 2001 Camry doesn't have a second starter wire. If you desire a starter kill function, then a relay is required for that feature.
Depending on who made the system, you'll need relays. Just follow the installation guide for your system. And yes, the XLE had an immobilizer.... the other trims did not to my knowledge.

So I've installed some of the features and Im having problems with the remote starter. It seems like it has a pattern in that when i start it with remote, it only works every other time. so its WORKING - FAIL - WORKING - FAIL
Hmmm. How are you tapping the wires? Solder + heat shrink?

You need to solder them now. If you screw up, unsolder stuff. Bad connections can cause those issues.
Ignore that colors... they may not be right. All the labels are correct though. Is everything wired up like this? Note the CUT WIRE.

Hmm I'm a little confused about the drawings... But for my starter I have the power connected directly to the battery, the acc, start, ign and ign2 tapped into their respective wires. The instructions didn't tell me to cut anything.. Right now I've wired up everything without the use of relay and they are working fine. I'm still having problems with remote starter and trying to wire the trunk release ( if its possible? ).
