Question Damsel in Toyata Stress!

Pretty new to this, but thought I should reach out to fellow Toyota lovers.Ok, here we go!

1. I think my top is shrinking, need a new one.

2. My check light engine is on codes 0441 and 0446. I think its the gas cap, but even when it is tighten it doesn't go off.

3. I need a paint job

4. I think I want my headlights painted black, what do you think.

Almost paid off, so its time to invest on cosmetic things!

I would say try resetting the battery and check if the codes are still there. But let others chime in first.

1. What do you mean you think your top is shrinking?

2. Disconnect your negative battery terminal for 10 mins to reset ECU for error codes if they have been corrected.

3. Get a paint job.

4. I drive through Spring all the time....might be able to get a decent deal on a fresh paint job.

If you think its your gas cap, my suggestion is to replace it with a new OEM one.

What year, model, trim line etc? Not that it matters, but it would help.

So the stiching around the my back window is folding up, it just looks like its peeling away from the window, not cute!
I did disconnect the battery, so far the light hasn't come back on, Yeah!
A deal on the paint job would be super!

The 2002 Solara is actually more closely related to the gen 4 camry. Thread relocated.

A. Diagnostics for PO441:

1. Remove Vacuum Hoses between EVAP VSV and Charcoal Canister and discard.
2. If there is a metal vapor pipe between EVAP VSV and Charcoal Canister, clean inside of vapor
pipe
3. Replace EVAP VSV and Charcoal Canister assembly with new parts.
4. Install new vacuum hoses between EVAP VSV and Charcoal Canister.

B. Diagnostics for P0446:

1. Inspect vacuum hoses and pipes between EVAP (Purge) VSV and Charcoal Canister for leaks.
2. Replace Vapor Pressure VSV and Canister.
NOTE :When performing diagnostics for an occurrence of a MIL "ON" condition, Diagnostic
Trouble Code (DTC) P0441 may be result of debris in Evaporative Emission Control System. This
may cause blockage of a vapor line, or a stuck VSV, as described in troubleshooting area of Repair
Manual.

jlfsmith, EVAP codes like to come back after some driving, so don't be surprised when they do.

Your car computer (ECU) needs several internal monitoring tests completed (including EVAP which takes longest to set completed) and if it can't do that it will pop the codes up. BTW, you don't have to pull negative battery cable to reset it all you need to do is to pull out a 15A blue fuse (corresponding to EFI) from Main Fuse box under hood on driver side for maybe 1-2 minutes, that's all it needs and it will not reset your radio when you do it next time

try a new OEM gas cap from dealer if your EVAP codes come back. I'm pretty sure Toyopartsman can offer you a good price on that, much better than over the counter anyways. EVAP codes are known to come when gas cap is leaking vacuum.

Holes in the vent tube on the filler tube or the filler tube itself should also be checked also if all this is done and it still leaks.

Toyota makes some nice rusty filler tubes. lol
