Topics of discussion range from fuel economy, safety, modifications, performance all involving America's favorite family car, the Toyota Camry.
What problems/imperfections are you hiding from the community?
I don't know if this is only me, but seeing everyone's Camrys (at least the ones in good condition) make me think my baby's not so nice.
For instance:
-My trunk is total garbage in terms of paint job.. tried to paint it black myself but it was a complete mess (I tried rustoleum)
-My hood's also messed up, had to paint a corner of it.. color matched pretty well but doesn't have the glossiness to it.
-Also my taillights are both cracked.. one from last weekend backing up into a tree (honestly, first time I ever hit anything ) and the other from doing the LED taillight retrofit
So what problems/imperfections are you hiding? Is it a never ending oil leak? Or an outrageously squeaky suspension?
When I was working in the oilfield I was turning around in the 95 camry and backed overtop of a 30" Piece of casing. Back tires came off the ground, pulled off of it and the rear bumper had some mean scratches in it
95 also has a clunk in the rear (Strut Bushings) That I haven't gotten around to fixing yet..
The 92 there is nothing wrong with it anymore (Had oil pressure problem -- changed out main and rod bearings) Paint is peeling on the roof (sun damage)
The 93 body is just a POS and is rotting away. The motor runs strong, no leaks or anything. It skips a little sometimes because I never re-surfaced the flywheel when i changed the clutch though
And paint on the 93.. hehehe What paint?? Has mismatched doors and fenders. Body is Burgundy and the doors and fenders are redish
Just two issues. The front end in the first pic & in the second pic.... the monstrosity on the left.

Gen 3:
Power steering leak/whine. Burning smell after driving (smells like brakes, might just be the new ones breaking in...). Steering is LOOSE. Needs an alignment. Rims need cleaning. Whole car needs cleaned, really.
Gen 4:
Everything. Engine/transmission coming out this weekend. Has a bad strut mount (not being fixed either.)
I couldn't find a rear body panel, so I made one from fiber glass.
sure it's stronger than the stock one, and won't ever rust so i'm not really worried about that, but god damn isn't it ugly.
I'm just glad that the bumper covers it up.

lol i wouldnt worry about that.. Its better than what my GF did one time. She was backing out of the driveway and her mirror hit my rear quarter on the 93 POS. and she kept going. I ran outside and was like WTF, she said she didnt know she hit me.
Tried to pop it back out but it was creased so that sucked. And as far as her car.. Has paint from my car on the mirror. No damage to hers though
^my mom drove my car once.. and i now i have a drivers side mirror that has paint from a fence...
after installing the trd sway bar yesterday it squeaks.. so i gotta remove it when i have time to grease the bushings. do i need to remove it or can i add grease straight onto it?

ouch
My mom backed into the cam a few years back, with the explorer (sort of scraped/backed). My front left fender has a few dents, I've been popping them out, but it's still noticeable.
No stripes on my driver-side doors. some broad near campus backed her dads minivan into it (was wearing flip flops, gas got stuck), so doors had to be replaced. also, the b-pillar on that side got pushed in by 3-4mm. not really noticeable (nobody else knows it's there), but it bugs the crap out of me. going to bolt some spacers between the rear door bracket and pillar to make it look more oem, one of these days.
random scratch on my rear bumper.
when I shaved the badges, didn't do a very good bondo job, so the holes are slightly pushed in.

Need performance parts?
Shoot me a PM, I'll see what I can do
Front left strut squeaks (Nothing the radio can't cover up) Brake squeal, The rear bumper has dozen of scratch, driver door is off a bit, One sun visor is gray and the other is broken, a rattle in the right a-pillar sometime, broken rear flip-out cup holder, Wheels have curb rash and chips, Paint has tree sap damages, scratches, and rock chip, Windshield has a rock chip repair spot, Wipers sometimes parks in the middle of the windshield, Trim around door windows are rotting, Fogs and headlights need adjustment, dust inside gauge cluster, Door dents EVRYWHERE , Pulls to the left on acceleration and right on breaking (bent strut and why it squeaks)
Worse if all, it has an XLE badge.......................................on an LE
My driver's door window switch is lifting out and I have a some-what weird shifting solonoid (the transmission has to get used to me shifting from park to reverse/drive if it's not been driven for a while before I can stop holding the shift lock button to shift.). The second owner left 'overspray' all over the front of the car from taking a spray can to the hood <_< but it's not as noticeable as you'd think. Also very minor but the left door (not driver's) has fading paint around the door handle.
Also my bumper has a dent but that will be fixed soon . Minor scratches around the body too but once again that's kind of normal >_>
I know this might not be the right forum, but the avalon section is basically dead.
So lets see, the coin holder rattles, I tried dynamat no help, need to investigate more. Other rattles in the interior. The headlights do not work in the 3rd position, only the AUTO position. Speakers are shot, suspension is shot, handling is garbage, steering wheel feels loose, lots of clunking from the suspension. Keyfob range is terrible. Other than that engine runs well, transmission shifts smooth, exterior is in excellent condition. Most of the problems should be fixed by the end of the year.
ya know, when i first saw this thread i thought it would be flame worthy but this looks like fun so why not.
OK, where to start. well its gotta be stuff i hide/omit from the community. well most can tell by looking at my pics i take that i only photograph the drivers side these days...thats for a good reason.
i have been meaning to finish my tuning job for OH about a year now, keep putting it off for reasons here and there (cant anymore). what i dont say is how much slower the car is without teh tune (at least i think). likely about a mear 200whp.
I have a room FULL of parts that need to be installed.
i got shafted on my razzi skirts paying FAR too much for them.
got worn rack bushings, lower control arm bushings, rear sway bar end link bushings and one SS brake line on my passenger side.
I also have TONS of zipties holding stuff (non crucial) on the car.
my sunroof doesnt work...at all.
finally, my beautiful red paint is starting to fade fast, i fear that this winter will be a death sentance for my roof and 1/4 pannels.
MAN, this thread does suck...how depressing
