Camry-to-Corolla seat changeover

Greetings!!!

Another fruitful trip to the U Pull it this last weekend yielded some minor trim pieces, parts for someone else's car, and another idea: Will Corolla seats fit into a Camry? Absolutely! I had the good fortune of having a 1997 Gen7 Corolla sitting next to a Gen3 Camry and decided to see what it would take to make the Corolla seats work in the Camry. The bolt pattern was VERY CLOSE, but no cigar - I wanted to find a common denominator so that the candidate seats would bolt right up to the Camry floorboard. My original seats were squeaky and uncomfortable on long trips, and were starting to see a little wear after 305K miles and 14 years

Turns out only the Corolla seat cushions only will interchange with the seat frame, which is a complicated piece of engineering to say the least. In order to change cushions, remove the four bolts from the bottom and sides of the bottom cushion, but remember to remove the four screws that hold on the plastic trim pieces first. Pull the cushion away from the seat...

Next you will have to either unzip and/or peel the seat covering away to expose the upper cushion mount bolts:

Then simply remove these four bolts and you are in business. Installation of the Corolla cushions is the reverse of removal pretty much but be sure to either cut or flatten the tab between the two mounting bolts to make installation that much less of a headache:

The cool thing is the cushions are virtually identical to the Gen3 ones but have so much more support than the originals. Maybe that Corolla I got them from had low miles (speedo was ripped out), but they feel so much more comfortable and supportive. No squeaks and the material is very plush and relatively clean, matching color - haven't shampooed them yet but they still look presentable

TOTAL WEIGHT SAVINGS: 5.6 lbs - You're DAMN right I weighed them!
